Sound: So their were a lot of sounds at Ozzfest (Shoreline, CA). Full of new (I guess up and coming) heavy metal bands. There were 2 stages: the main stage and the second stage (put on by monster energy). On the second stage less notables (the people that were up and coming) played but still good notables. All the bands on second stage played for usually 25 minutes. Most of the bands on second stage sounded the same except for Strapping Young Lad, Norma Jean, Atreyu, Black Label Society and of course Ozzy Osbourne. But none the less each band sounded like a metal that sounded except for the last few Ijust stated there 14 bands that played on the second stage and each one of them were fantastic especially Ozzy and BLS. The singers had that heavy sound that every metal singer desires. I don't remember much of the guitars until bls and Ozzy got on. Zakk used five guitars for his set. He used his signature Gibson Les Pauls and Flying V's (all of which had humbucking EMGs) he had a metallic bulls eye Les Paul which you could see your reflection on. Then his yellow bulls eye Les Paul. Then his worn on Les Paul with EMGs and buttons and the confederate flag. He played the polka dotted Flying V then for one song and he played a SG double neck with regular humbuckers.
All those bands went from 9:20 to 5:05. All those bands had good sound especially Ozzy. Zakk really screwed up ozzy's set by doing wat he loves to do most improvising and throwing in pinch harmonics (he threw pinch harmonics into Paranoid and Crazy Train). Then everybody went to the main stage to see the six big headliners of Ozzfest (Dragonforce, Lacuna Coil, Hatebreed, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, and System Of A Down). Dragonforce played for thirty minutes and was a serious letdown. They were a letdown because you could not hear their guitars which was seriously sad because they are extremely fast and thats what they are all about. Their singing was great they played music off their new album inhuman rampage. Then Lacuna Coil came on and was decent then hatebreed. then the big hitters came on. Avenged Sevenfold came on and rocked the house with there songs and with pantera's walk and some of their songs off of city of evil. They played some of their old and new. The Pantera song Sinster Gates played a 3 minute long solo where the entire band left the stage. Then Disturbed came on and played a little slower. But played off their last two albums and older stuff. They were fantastic. Then System Of A Down came on and played new and old stuff and closed the deal. It was great the sound was great. // 9
Perfomance: The perfomances were great by every band. The 13.5 hours I spent there were some of the best things in my life. There were too many songs to list but they were all good. Ozzy threw water onto people Avenged Sevenfold used a Pantera background and had a flying skull. The lighting was great. It was goregous. // 10
Overall Impression: It was held in Shoreline, Moutain View, CA on July 1st. The openers were I guess were Black Label Society, Ozzy, Dragonforce, Lacuna Coil, Hatebreed, Avenged Sevenfold, disturbed and System Of A Down. I loved the show because of how weird it was. 35 bucks for lawn seats to see 13 and a half hours of music. It was kind of like a carnival because there were a lot of weird people there. The show was worth money. their was a tatooing parlor, topless girls, free condoms, free energy drinks, candies that tasted like drugs (chronic candies). I hated how much it costed for a DVD. The best moments were when A7X played the pantera song and disturbed and System Of A Down played. I am totally going to Ozzfest next year! // 10
