Sound: First up batting for loosers everywhere was 'chicks on speed', possably the worst thing I had ever heard in my life. They had a tape player, a box with a knob on it, an air guitar, some beat pad thing and a pair of chisels. Diabolical stuff. Thank god for James Brown though and the backing band was brilliant. Seemed to me like the microphone for James was very quiet though and he didn't do much singing. Finaly the Chilis, wounderful music made by the trio, though a little to many effects used by John on the solos and again the microphone was too quiet for Anthony. Minor things though (no pun intended). // 10
Perfomance: After the stpidly poor chicks on speed (which looked like an 7 year olds school dance resital) we were introduced to the 'bitter sweet' the magnifisently talanted backing group for James Brown. We were treated to sax solos, dansing from James, half naked women in american flag bikinis, and a croud pleasing over the head guitar solo which was brilliant by any standards.
The Chilis however were a different story, expoding onto the stage with bright lights and 'Can't Stop' we knew something great was about to unfold. playing songs from By the way and Californication they played a decent veriaty (I expected more singles). They played a Brand New song which was a bit wierd to begin with but realy rocked out after. It was so new infact they had some trouble gettin started, causing an argument betweet flea and John which everyone loved. Songs were broken up by fleas trumpet, terrible jokes and jam sessions and a song he wrote specialy for Cardiff. At the end they threw drums and effects peddles and anything they could find into the croud. Brilliant! The atmosphere in the crowd was great too, they loved the bands (exept CoS of corse)and the bands loved them. // 10
Overall Impression: I payed 40 for a standing ticket and it was well worth the money even with chicks on speed, Who I kind of felt sorry for but they realy deserved what they got. The bitter sweet was brilliant and Chilis were even better. Chilis are very much a must see live band, and you have to stand, it's unbelivable. // 10
