Sound: Having booked the tickets for this gig more than a few months in advance, when the day came I was really pleased. Anthony Kiedis' singing was top notch, he has definitely improved from previous live performances, and his voice is a lot stronger and melodic live than it used to be. Frusciante used his Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster, and also his Gibson Les Paul which I haven't seen in a while. Flea used a Fender Jazz bass, and I saw his guitar technician soundchecking his signature Modulus bass, but he didn't use it on this occasion. The sound at this gig blew me away. I was very near to the front, and the entire band was loud without drowning each other out. It reminded me how amazing Flea's bass tone is, and his bass literally thundered through the songs. // 9
Perfomance: The audience had been waiting for around an hour for RHCP to come onstage, so when they finally did, we were all overjoyed. They played a mix of old and new songs, including one from Mothers Milk (Nobody Weird Like Me), which was a great punk, funk song, and also Blood Sugar Sex Magik, which I was really pleased about. They opened with Can't Stop, which prompted a huge sing along from the audience; sometimes you couldn't hear Anthony the audience was so loud! They then played Dani California, which again got a huge reaction, as did Scar Tissue. John’s soloing throughout was amazing, using a lot of wah and phaser to add a special something to his solos. An amusing thing that I spotted was that Flea's daughter was in the audience (complete with ear defenders) and he was dancing and smiling at her when she was at the side of the stage. // 10
Impression: UK (London) Earls Court, 17th July 2006. The support was! Who had many members in their band, definitely not the generic support act, added a lot of tribal rhythms and music to dance to that set us up nicely for the RHCP. I loved almost every bit about this show, the sound quality, and the fact that I got within touching distance of my heroes in music. The ticket cost an expensive 40 pounds, but for a big show like this you can't really expect any less. Unfortunately they play their last night in London tonight (which is sold out) and then I believe they are off to Europe. 40 pounds well spent! // 10
