Hufschmid: Green Attack Drop Plectrum
Due to the shape and material the attack drop acts like an ultra heavy pick that can glide across strings with ease and accuracy. As a lover of modern metal genres like metalcore, djent and death metal, the plectrums incredible attack and power on the low strings whilst maintaining high levels of clarity is perfect for the style I play.

Features: The Hufschmid attack drop plectrum is a custom guitar pic designed and hand crafted by Patrick Hufschmid. The plectrum features a curvy unusual shape that's almost 6mm in width at the fattest point and having a much thinner "3D" point at the picking end. It is made out of "ultra-high-molecular-weight-polyethylene" or UHMWPE which is apparently stronger and harder wearing than even the hardest standard plastics on the market. The plectrum is surprisingly light considering its size and it comes in a bright green. For a plectrum, this has a variety of additional features making it a new experience to guitar players without it being too alien. Also, the size and colour also make it harder for the pic to warp into another dimension when you drop it. This secured it a solid 10. // 10

Sound: Due to the shape and material the attack drop acts like an ultra heavy pick that can glide across strings with ease and accuracy. As a lover of modern metal genres like metalcore, djent and death metal, the plectrums incredible attack and power on the low strings whilst maintaining high levels of clarity is perfect for the style I play. However, unlike most thick picks, the attack drop doesn't struggle on the high strings and effortlessly glides over them instead maintaining accuracy and clarity. On other music styles the plectrum copes surprisingly well. Full bar chords sound clear on electric and acoustic guitars whilst shred and high speed licks sound clear and strong. The plectrum is excellent on the low end whilst maintaining a decent high end unlike a lot of picks on the market. // 8

Reliability & Durability: As a regular player (10 hours a week) I found I would "eat" ordinary plastic and tortex plectrums regardless of thickness in a matter of weeks. Resorting to grinding most down to nothing on a bench sander. The Huf pick stands up to the my heavy handedness and I have so far (after owning the plectrum 4months) only given it one very light sanding a week ago. One small issue with the material is that it tends to turn black when regularly used due to dirt. However, giving the pick a wipe with sandpaper and washing it will remove the majority of the discolouration. // 8

Ease of Use: As I said previously, straight out the packet and first time use is awkward and strange. However, once you have "broken in" the pick it becomes incredibly comfortable and easy to use. I feel my playing at home, in studio and live has benefitted directly from this plectrum. The pick deserves bonus points for being easy to find, machine washable and original! Also, although not essential, grinding this pick down after heavy use is very easy and the pick tends to keep a sharp point for a very long time. // 8

Overall Impression: My first impression of this plectrum wasn't good. Out of the packet I found it slippery and unusual. However, after playing with it a few times it became strangely easy and comfortable to hold. I feel after constant use for the past few months my picking technique has significantly improved. Some techniques, like pinch harmonics, take a little while to get used to. I highly recommend this pick to anyone who already uses 1mm and up picks and to anyone interested in a more comfortable and technique benefitting plectrum! // 9
