though i am a fan of chimaira, the infection did (sadly) deserve a 3. they didn't do anything new
and what they did do wasn't as good as what they'd done previously anyway

I wouldn't really categorize them as a metal band. More along the lines of experimental hardcore. There're parts in their sound that can be found in metal, but in the end I wouldn't call them metal.

Still a good band though.

Reviewer Pete has NEVER steered me wrong, and it may be that I have similar tastes, but I like having a column that seemes relevant to me instead of Rolling Stone, etc. constantly sucking off U2 and Kings of Leon.

I enjoyed the Infection above a 3, but it really was nothing new. Chimaira are a "sometimes" band for me anyway. I can't find Lazarus, but I compensated by getting two of Hacride's earlier releases... I want Lazarus even more now, that band is just really good.

JFAC is cool... nothing as lasting as my love of Nile though.

Dream Theater? I did hear that Between the Buried and Me are in the preliminary stages of a new record as well, or at least that they're plotting an 09 release.

That's because they're pretty much the only genres where you can still hear something new on an album even after 2 months always listening to it. And btw I do like "unprogressive" metal but I can't listen to that kind of music more than once before switching CDs while Colors is still playing in my car every morning even if I've been listening to it for more than a year.

As a huge Ensiferum fan, i think Victory songs was a great release, definitely not as good as the self titled or Iron. But if you look at the members on Victory Songs, Jari wasnt the only member absent, Markus and Meiju were the only 2 in the studio who recorded a previous album. For a such a big line up change, they definitely kept their sound and put out a solid album

no offence to pete, he is a genrally decent reviewer n gives albums a proper score rather than giving everything 7/10 so as not to offend anyone, and i agree that some prog, mastodon etc. is just at another level, however, it seems sometimes his reviews are swayed based on the pure difficulty of what is being played, rather than wt it sounds like

This bloody reviewer always gives any album classed under Heavy Metal / Hard Rock a low / average score where it gets to the point that you can read the genre of an album and guess the score. I like Chimaira. It was a crap album. Does not compare to Resurrection or anything else they've done, for that matter.

Also, reviews = subjective, like it or not. It's not a complete joke, he just didn't like it, and neither do a lot of people. How was the review 'unfounded'? It's not like he said it was a collection of folk songs.
