i agree with nick, there's only one guitarist in rush (alex lifeson) and I've seen him play it live without any extra guitarist or add-ins.
This song is so crazy hard...yet the solo is relatively simple for rush standards. Has anyone else noticed that when the intro and verse are difficult, the solo is easy, and when the solo is insanely tough, the rest of the song is simple...?
Also, this song is going to be featured on Rock Band 2!!!!! I can't wait to do the Neil Peart wood block section on drums (or whatever he plays there :P)
the reason that there is two guitars in the studio album is because geddy lee (bassist for those who don't know) can play guitar very well too, not as good as alex, but very well nonetheless in xanadu as well amongst others Geddy plays the guitar and bass - he has a double neck guitar - one bass, one guitar, at the beginning of this song, alex uses a nylon string guitar also... how? he has it on a stand whilst he has his electric strapped round him, so after he lets go of the nylon string he can easily play his electric
so back to the point of this song - in the studio you can mix your track, which has been done for effect here, or simply a chorus has been used, depends when your listening to it - which album you were listening to it on.
