this is an excellent tab, if you play it this way it sounds very good. However, if you want to play it the way the chili peppers really did it you have to use hendrix-style thumb-over chords for most of it.

By the way that is not the exact way they play but nice job taking the time to tab it. I'm kind of obsesed with playing artists songs exactly as they play it. They use broken cords for the verse with thumb on root note. I think it's easier to play it that way. I also tabbed it. I think it's on this site.

Absolutely freaking incredible. One of my favorite songs to listen to, now one of my favorites to play. Ignore everyone else who talks about the capo on the second fret... I think it's easier to play without it.
Will_GnR_87.... i've watched John frusciante play this song, many many times, and it is always played on 5th fret, and if anybody would play it right, it would be him. Also, if i remember right, in the video for under the bridge it is also played on the 5th fret.
Ya know I just saw the video of John Frusciante playing this song and giving helpful tips. I have to say it is very accurate. I sat down with the video on demand and tried playing with him, and the tab held up well.
in the intro if anyone listens closely you can hear that on the first 3h5po3 John plays that there are more notes there, i can't figure it out but if anyone else can it would be nice if you posted what he plays. Also in the intro if you listen you can also here that John plays two notes at once more than this guy has in the tab, requiring that you bar most of the intro to act as a capo if you want to play how it sounds on BSSM.
this song is much much easier if you use e 7 b 9 g 9 d 9 a 7 e 7 throughout the whole song instead of the emaj form you have g 13 d 14 a 14 e 12 also you can play it on acoustic cause you dont need to go past the 12th fret
Must I remind people that tabs aren't ment to be exact? It's someones interpretation of the song, to help you learn the song and progress as a guitarist. All songs I play I add things, take things away so they sound truly different yet the same. It's called style, have some appreciation for the guy who took some time to write down his own version of the song, I don't many many of you ungrateful brats doing so.
Btw, the time is a little out for the first verse thing after the intro, the held E chord is a bit misleading in the tab compared to the song.

Thats far too complicated. Why you dont play the chords on the higher strings, that sounds better and is easier because you dont have to grab that low...

Not a bad interpretation. But thats all it is... a misguided translation of a great song. The sheet music states that no capo is needed, thus if one is used it completly changes the key of the song...however it does'nt sound all that bad with a capo.

Why does this tab have 4 stars and not 5? I hate how some kids ruin amazing tablature with a 1 star just because of some little issue that no one else cares about. This tab is sublime, end of story.
This is a pretty good tab. Not totally accurate but close enough to give you a good basis to start from. Some of the chords don't sound quite right in the chorus and I prefer to play the main E chord as x79997 (rather than at the 12th fret).
I'm pretty sure Leakeg is correct about the intro being played with a capo in the 2nd fret which is an easier/simpler way and is how I learned it about 12 years ago when the tab was in Guitar World.

this tab seems quite right, but honestly guys theres a much better sounding and efficient way of leaning an playing tabs if u buy guitar pro 5, ive been using it fr a year and i took me half as long to learn this song then my friends who dont have the program. its also graet for writing your own music...drums,bass,guitar etc. nyway good work on this tab but its really long.
the tabs seem good to me, i dont think any one of them is perfect, u just gotta take a little bit from each of the tabs. i can assure this because ive seen him play it live 2 feet away from me and plus theres tons of videos on youtube of him doing it slowly. im pretty sure he does alot of improvisation between chords tho, and u cant tab that kind of talent.
