At the beginning there is no vibrato, it is actually a tremolo effect on the guitar.

I'm pretty sure it is, and it's not a vibrato by hand in the intro, I think it's some serious reverb or some effect like that.

The acual song is played with a Mandolin so ur all wrong but the acoustic version is played exactally he has it written

I've never been able to hear the Mandolin in the song, and I don't know if Clapton is has ever played one.
Whilst Clapton doesn't use a tremelo (or whammy bar) he is able to get a quite rapid vibrato just by using his left hand
