Why do you play the fith fret on the A string instead of just the D string open? Can anyone explain this please or is it just personal prefference?

and ribs: it doesnt matter, its just what you want really. but some people say it sounds better a certain way.

i'm with Rib5, playing the open A makes it easier, but yeah, doesn't matter. Does anyone know what the chord at the very start of the song is?

the first chord is a "hendrix chord"
so it is like this
excuse my poor tabbing
but a string 5th fret
d string 4th fret
g string 5th fret
b string 6th fret

so it would be like this i guess x5456x
