I really think that second chord in the chorus is an F#m, not an A.

@ cuezephyr- It very well could be! The problem for me is that I can't play F#! lol! Self taught beginner here and any barre chords (if thats how it's spelled) are terribly difficult for me. So, the A sounded acceptable! lol :)

-Also until it updates with the change, at the end of the song the last -D *once- on "I go back.." is a Bm.

@ winterlover104- I can't play a regular Bm either so I cheat it and play it like this- [x x 4 4 3 0] - and use the same finger position as Am. You could always transpose...

Awww... I just read an article about Taylors Swift's new album and "Back To December" IS about Taylor Lautner. The line "I miss your tan skin, your sweet smile" that should have been a dead give away right there!

@rizie_13- I strum it like this: dd,dudu,dd,dudu and so forth.
There is slight changes here and there. Just remember: With every chord change it's always starts over with the 2 downs-dd and then the dudu, dd, dudu and so on. Sometimes there's not as many dudu's it might be just dud, no up. As long as you're strumming down 2 times every time at a chord change you'll keep the beat.

strumming is easy for any song and it doesnt really matter how you do it as long as you stay with the beat and chord changes..

This song is played with capo on second. Any other place is wrong. The song may sound right but its not. Do like it says at the top. Transpose it down 2 half steps. That is the only way its right

this is really great!! my guitar is tuned to itself rite now so i may be wrong but it sounds really great if you put a capo on 2md w/o transposing

@ butchwalkerfan- I personally like playing with the capo on 2 and transposing. I submitted the no capo version because a lot of people don't have capo's or just like the fuller sound of not using a capo. I think it sounds great both ways! But with my dislike of Bm, I tend to transpose more often than not!

@millie&mavis- If you like it with the capo on 2 and not transposing, then that's great! Your guitar might actually be tuned down and not in standard tuning, but as long as you like the chords then good;) Whenever I'm figuring out chords, I listen to the real song from the CD and go from there- not someones version on youtube, or myself humming it out etc..- So in the end playing along to the actual song sounds good. I do it this way because I'm not a lead singer, and have to play along with songs so I can sing back-up!!lol!! Anyways, thanks for liking my chords!

the chords were great the only thing is that there is a capo its on 1. I played it with the song the rest is right!!

These chords are perfect and there is NO capo needed if your guitar is in standard tuning. If your guitar is tuned down 1 half step then you would use a capo on 1 (@aussiegal), tuned down 2 half steps, capo on 2 (@millie&mavis)etc.

Glad everyone likes the chords! If it sounds best for you to use a capo then that's awesome! :)

I do all my chords in standard tuning- I have a tuner built in my guitar so it's easy to always make sure it's in perfect standard(EADGBe)tuning before I start on a song. If you're tuned down then absolutely a capo would be needed:)

And, The Story of Us is actually about John Mayer. There's an article about her hidden messages in the album booklet. The message for this song was TAY. But it was obviously about him anyway.

@Ciaraaa- Glad you like these chords:) I had read an article before the album was released about "The Story Of Us" and it said it was about T.L. because they sat just seats away at an award show after their break-up, but after hearing it I thought it was definitely about Joe Jonas. when you transpose these chords it is exactly how taylor swift plays it. I'm watching her on Ellen Show right now. She's playing the transposed capo 2 chords.

@Christy: 1st, the chords are awesome (after transpose... even though i can play Bm.) and 2nd, the song 'the Story of Us' is written about Joe Jonas, not taylor lautner, and not john mayer (she wrote 'dear john' about john mayer.) and extra note: she wrote 'forever and always' about joe jonas in her 'fearless' album.

@Country_Lover44 -I knew Dear John was obviously about J.M., and it makes sense that The Story Of Us is about J.J.

But-I'm still in shock after seeing the cover of (if I remember right) 'Us' Magazine with Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhall on the cover (last night when I was buying my copy of Eclipse!*squee*). I never believed all the talk/gossip. I just hope she's happy:) And, he seems like a good guy. I like his movies anyways;)lol!

And thanks for liking the chords! I will stick up for the non-transposed version though,lol- they're also right! Her back-up guitarist plays them;)

im sorry... i just dont think its in D... when i play it in D# is sounds correct WITH the song. It might sound find without the songs and just playing it yourself, but as the song is playing D sounds just off.

If you're having trouble with the barre F#m try x44200 Its more open and I thinks its pretty.
And for folks struggling with barre Bm, try xx4432 or maybe x21202 or x20202, whichever you prefer.

Hey guys!
If you're playing in G and you want to get a little fancier and play the melody line before the bridge like in some youtube covers, you can try these chords. The only thing that really changes is the G before the Em and C, which remains unchanged. I play the 16th after beat 3 as a hammer on.

I can't play the barred version, but a much easier way to play it the F-chord formation, just move all of your fingers down one string! It's sooo much easier and it sounds the same. Also, only play the bottom 4 strings (D,G,B,E). Hope this helps!

I'd like to add if anyone's interested (it's not a correction really, it's an addition) if you play it with capo on 2nd, in the none vocal, C Am F parts, if you press the 3rd fret on the high E string (relative to the capo - 5th fret otherwise) at the end of playing the Am as you move to the F, I find it sounds nice :P

I just transpose it to capo 2 and it is perfect :) However, I can play the F#m now- especially when it comes after a D chord. I guess I've progressed in the last 3.5 years ;)

If you click the 'up' arrow button 5 times then the chords become G Em C D (and a Bm's in there a couple times) so you would put a capo on the 5th fret. You do not have to change your tuning. Stay in Standard EADGBe tuning and just move the capo :) Transposing is just moving the capo around and adjusting the chords accordingly, not changing your guitars tuning. I hope this helps!
