who says the mandolin riff for the song 'This Side' can only be played on mandolin?
the tab so you guys can finally play it on guitar. i even included the intro. The intro is
simultaneously on two guitars; the mandolin (guitar 2), and just partly on the rhythm guitar (guitar 1).
Please listen to the song to get the correct timing. it can be hard
at but it'll sound just you were playing the mandolin! speeding up your finger movement is crucial... Enjoy!

Tip: (For best viewing, paste onto a notepad, set font to 'courier new' and enlarge the notepad window)

INTRO: (GUITAR 2)

INTRO: (GUITAR 1)
The first part of the mandolin intro is played simultaneously with the following:
-0---0---2---2h3--------------------------------------|
---0---0---0-----5-4-5-5---5---5----2--5--4--2--------|
-------------------------2---2----2-------------4--2--|

-1-----------------------2---2---2-------------4--2-1---||
--------------------------------------------------------||
--------------------------------------------------------||
--------------------------------------------------------||

Guitar 1 stops here while the mandolin(guitar 2) plays out its remaining intro riff.
Tip: (If both guitars start at the same time, the timing will be just right)

The next mandolin riffs come after every chorus. The latter part of the riff is pretty
the same with the intro except it starts differently.

start like so: (playing quickly)
e---------------9-11-12--|
B----------10-12---------|
G--9-11-13---------------|
D------------------------|
A------------------------|
E------------------------|

Then play the remaining riff from the intro that goes:
e--12--12--14--14h16--12-11-12-12--12--12--9-12-11-9-------|
B----12--12--12------------------10--10--10---------12-10--|
G----------------------------------------------------------|
D----------------------------------------------------------|
A----------------------------------------------------------|
E----------------------------------------------------------|

e---------12----14--14h16--12-11-12-12--12--12--9-12-11-9--------|
B-------12----12--12------------------10--10--10----------12-10--|
G--10s13----14---------------------------------------------------|
D----------------------------------------------------------------|
A----------------------------------------------------------------|
E----------------------------------------------------------------|

---------12----||
---------12----||
--10s13--------||
---------------||

and thats all!

Tip:
To help you play the mandolin riff, use the index finger to hold (xxxx1212) and then use
middle finger to reach (xxxxx14) and lastly, use the ring finger to reach (xxxxx16).
easier to do this than to slide from note to note since the riff is fast.

Well, you get the picture... hope this tab helped out a lot.
