Subject: Re: Anyone figure out "Landslide" by Smash. Pump.?

I was given this as a lesson song by a folky-type teacher a few years back
when it was more widely known as a Stevie Nicks song. I agree, it's a very
pretty one. I've only caught just the end of the Smashing Pumpkins version
for the first time yesterday, but it sounded pretty similar (I thought it
*was* Stevie Nicks 'til I listed closer). How cool - I used to just know
old, mellow stuff, now I can play a Smashing Pumpkins number!

Anyway, here's a shot at getting this across clearly:

The picking pattern for the verses is

String: 5 3 4 2 3 4
Timing: 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &

The chords for the verses are
 C: X32010
G6: X20030
Am: X02210

            C G6 Am G6

One measure of each, 4 measures per line of lyrics, over and over and over.

The verses are:

C G6 Am G6 etc, etc, etc.
Took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
'Til a landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within by heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?
      C G6 Am G6 C G6 Am
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Am7 C G6 Am

Chorus (you could strum this, or switch to a Cotton or Travis pick):

        G Am C
Well I've been afraid of changing
    G Am G Am
'Cause I've built my life around you
       G Am C G
But time makes you bolder, even chldren get older
                  Am G Am
1st time: I'm gettin' older, too
                  A G Am C G Am
2nd time: I'm gettin' older, too..... I'm getting older, too

Back to the original picking pattern & chords:

Took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountsain and I turned around
And if you see my reflection i nthe snow covered hills
Will the landslide bring you down?
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Will the landslide bring you down...Will the landslide bring you down.

Chorus (w/2nd ending)

Happy Picking :-)
Linda
