Alright, here's HTSAL.. These are pretty much the chords, and granted I'm doing this
after watching their acoustic performance on VH1.. So, these are just the chords Dave
plays. Basically he just finger picks within the chords in this performance.. When they
play it live, it's much more complicated so don't even ask me how he does that. Note..
this is not 100 percent accurate, so don't be too upset

Capo 3
Std Tuning

G D/F#
Step one you say we need to talk
    Em D D/F# G
He walks you say sit down it’s just a talk
             D/F# Em
He smiles politely back at you
             D D/F# G
You stare politely right on through
               D/F# Em
Some sort of window to your right
             D D/F# G
As he goes left and you stay right
              D/F# Em
Between the lines of fear and blame
                   D D/F#
And you begin to wonder why you came

  C D Em
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
            G D/F#
Somewhere along in the bitterness
    C D Em
And I would have stayed up with you all night
             G D/F#
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you’ve told him all along
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you’ve followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he’ll say he’s just not the same
And you’ll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

This is a tab for that little piano riff that happens periodically thruought the song
