The history of rock music saw some of the all-time greats calling it quits, leaving behind an immense legacy that shaped a century, and an entirely new way of thinking and living.
And upon leaving, those big bands had to play their final gigs, right? That's what we're about to focus on with a brief rundown, as we bring you final concerts of 8 bonafide rock legends, go!
The Beatles - Apple Corps Ltd, London, UK - 30 January 1969
Much like anything The Beatles ever did, their final show was also a legendary and pioneering in many ways. It was the iconic rooftop show atop of their Apple Corps HQ. The show was ended by the cops.
The Doors - Warehouse, New Orleans, LA - December 12, 1970
In 1970, The Doors, and especially Jim Morrison, were burnt out. Soon afterwards, Jim left the band, and went to live to Paris, where you can still visit him at the Pere Lachaise.
Sex Pistols - Winterland, San Francisco, CA - January 14, 1978
The first and last Sex Pistols US tour was wrapped up on January 14, 1978 in San Francisco. It turned out to be the band's last show in general. Johnny Rotten told the crowd: "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"
Led Zeppelin - Eissporthalle, Berlin, Germany - July 7, 1980
A few months before drummer John Bonham choked in his vomit, Led Zeppelin rocked their final show ever (featuring the classic lineup, that is) on July 7, 1980, live in Berlin, Germany.
Queen - Knebworth Park, Knebtworth, UK - August 9 1986
Two hours of their all-time hits in front of 120,000 fans, the Queen's final show with Freddie Mercury was as grandiose as the man himself.
The Smiths - Astoria, London, UK - 12 December, 1986
The final show of The Smiths took place in December of 1986 as a part of Artists Against Apartheid benefit. The question of reunion is still present, but it doesn't seem like it will happen any time soon.
Nirvana - Terminal 1, Munich, Germany - March 1, 1994
About a month before Kurt Cobain's suicide, Nirvana played what turned out to be their last show ever in Munich, Germany, delivering a cool set marred with technical issues and Kurt's bronchitis and laryngitis.
Oasis - Weston Park, Staffordshire, UK - August 22, 2009
The Gallagher brothers graced the stage for the last time on August 22, 2009. They rocked out The Beatles classic "I Am the Walrus," and Noel left the band the following night.
