A Yearly Rewind: Most Visited Articles of 2016
7

With the year of 2016 pretty much behind us, the time has come to look back at what the past 12 months have brought to us in terms of music.

When it comes to UG, it's been a pretty solid year (knock on wood) - the community, traffic, feedback and all that jive regarding both just the editorial stuff and the site as a whole has jumped (internet data says over 10% overall); we've ventured outside the domain of guitar tabs with the ToneBridge app, we've welcomed GuitarBackingTrack into the UG family, and did a bunch of neat stuff that has hopefully improved your user experience (and will keep working on it a bit more if you guys behave).

When it comes to stuff that was popular in the News section, we can say that pretty much without a doubt, the Top 3 trends of the guitar-driven region were:

Musician deaths

Unfortunately, 2016 marked the departure of a large number of musical legends. We've dedicated a separate article as a tribute to these titans, you can read it here.

The new Metallica album

Metallica finally releasing their first album in eight years was definitely one of the highlights this year, with you folks awarding all those fresh 'Tallica songs, interviews and related goodies with copious amounts of clicks.

GN'R Reunion + Axl/DC

The announcement of Guns N' Roses' semi-reunion was one of the definite top trends of 2016. If we were to add the Axl/DC announcement into the equation, it could be argued that Mr. Rose was the No. 1 individual in rock and metal music this year.

You can check out the list of Best Albums of 2016, Best Songs of 2016 and Most Anticipated Albums of 2017 you folks have generated, but in terms of sheer popularity and clicks, this is what got to the top.
