Are We the Waiting

Fans eagerly await the release of Green Day's first-ever punk album.

Three weeks ago, a mysterious countdown was seen ticking away on Green Day's official website. When questioned about it, the band would refuse to answer. Today the timer hit zero, and Green Day called a press conference to make, what they so modestly called, "a big-a-s announcement."

Billie Joe Armstrong, the band's front man, addressed the crowd, "For over twenty-five years now, our band has been lucky enough to do what we love to do: make music. None of that would've ever been possible, though, if it weren't for our fans. I honestly believe we've got some of the best fans in the world, and I hope that they'll support us with whatever we choose to do. I'm standing here today because our band is currently working on a new album. I honestly think it's one of the best we've ever written. It's also different than anything we've ever written. For the first time in our career, Green Day is making a punk rock record!"

Nobody would've ever expected Green Day - the same band to make not one, but two rock operas (one of which is being turned into a major Broadway show) - to ever make something as raw and unpolished as a punk record. Kudos to Armstrong and the gang for not being afraid to try something new. We surveyed a few fans to hear their thoughts on this announcement.

One fan had this to say: "Honestly, Green Day is the best band in the world. You'd have to be blind and/or deaf not to see and/or hear that! Whatever they do, I know it's gonna kick butt!"

Another fan we spoke to was equally optimistic: "I really don't know that much about punk rock other than the fact that the Ramones invented it. It should still be good though. I hope it still sounds like classic Green Day though. You know, '21st Century Breakdown' type stuff."

One fan was less enthused: "No, no, no! What the heck are they doing?!? They're gonna ruin themselves! Honestly, punk rock was cool for, what, a week? I mean, I get that they wanna try something new and all, but they should be thinking of the fans first and foremost! And what we want is more 'Viva La Gloria!'"

What do you think? Does Green Day have what it takes to try their luck at being a punk band, or should they stick to what they do best: making commercially acceptable, radio-friendly rock operas? Let us know in the comments!

I actually believed it until I saw it was posted under fiction. Huge let down lol
Same. I'm not a huge fan, but BJA has the sense of humour that he might say that and mean it, from what I've seen.

I had no idea fictional articles were displayed here so I was really confused haha.
Yeah, sometimes they post jokes. . . this time though, I caught it easily since, ya know, they started out as "punk."
I actually think the first three Records could less or more be called punk rock (thats at least how i've always seen it). This will be pretty exciting after three shit records. The new green day fan base is pretty... urgh though..
Yeah. Try getting through a page of comments on their facebook page or youtube channel without having an urge to facepalm. It's rough.
This article seems like a joke. From Billie Joe's statement to the fans' ones.
lol.. i guess no one really knows green day.. they started off as a punk band and slowly morphed into a hard rock band. i think it's cool that they want to go back to their roots.
Punk Rock is always cool they must of never listened to The Ramones or The Clash
Whoever thinks 21st Century Breakdown is classic Green Day couldn't be more wrong! And they already did punk rock. Never heard of Dookie or Insomniac? I would love to hear a new Green Day album which sounds more like their 90's stuff. And if they want to do a rawer and harder album, why not? I think their raw and heavy songs like Take Back or maybe Bab's Uvula Who? are some of their best. I think they've become too commercial the last five or even ten years, though their latest stuff wasn't bad too. I'm excited and hope this is going to differ a bit from their latest stuff and will be more agressive and loud.
You sure are over excited given that this is entirely fake. They have Demolicious coming out next month though, although I'm scared to tell you that in case you ejaculate just reading about it.
Green Day started with punk-rock and then they went to a pop-punk style in their last 2 albums. I'm waiting for this record. And I think it will be the last GD record. In punk-rock style, You're not credible when you're 45 yo
Don’t really care much for Greenday, but i still know this isn’t their first Punk record...they were punk to begin with, so that’s a bit of a misleading statement to say it’s their first really...
I was about to post a sarcastic "Ha Ha" but the letters were too ashamed to show up and I'm currently trying to talk them out of a suicide.
