Most Metal Superheroes of All Time

Every true superhero should have a touch of metal added, right?

Ultimate Guitar

If there's something that can take your everyday superhero to a whole new level, it's a healthy dose of good old metal. Ability to fly, x-ray vision and super-strength are all cool, but way cooler if combined with some guitar distortion. Luckily, there are a few metal dudes more than capable of saving the day out there. Therefore, check out our list of 8 most metal superheroes ever.

We'll kick it off with an obvious choice - God of Thunder, Vikings, long hair, Scandinavian vibe, that hammer - Thor is as metal as a superhero can be.

Ghost Rider

If leather, chains, flaming bike and a flaming skull don't do the trick for you, consider this - Nicolas Cage played him in the movie.

Spikes, growly voice, chest hair, this guy's basically a few face warts away from being Lemmy.

Deadpool's just an epitome of a metal dude not giving a single f--k about anyone or anything, a shoo-in for our list.

Maybe he doesn't possess any typical superhero abilities, but Dave Mustaine was inspired to write two songs based on the Punisher. OK, one and a half in some way, but whatever.

There's just something both vile and classy about Batman that simply screams Opeth. A true metal sir, rightfully placed in the upper part of our list.

Summoned from Hell to Earth by a group of Nazi occultists, Hellboy had metal written all over him the day he came to be. Add horns, a devil tail, leather coat and trousers, and an oversized right hand made of stone and you'll get that guy you regret meeting in the moshpit at a Slayer gig.

Iron Man

Combine the most epic metal riff of all time and that Black Sabbath t-shirt Robert Downey Jr. wore and you'll get a whole lot of metal.

Also, what subgenre of metal is each one of those superheroes? Does Thor fits perfectly with folk metal? Is gothic metal the perfect genre for Batman? Can you call Iron Man a heavy metal super hero? Share your opinions in the comments section.

The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the *****s and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll whisper "no."
Except Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" is not about Marvel's Iron Man. It's called Iron Man because Ozzy thought that Tony Iommi's guitar riff sounded like an "Iron Bloke walking about". Judge Dredd should be on here simply for the fact that Anthrax wrote an awesome song about him.
You're right about the song not being about Marvel's Iron Man (wouldn't really be surprised if it was the other way round), but the two combined just makes so much sense that he definitely belongs on the list.
[/FlAME ON] Wheres the Human Torch, he's so smug he could be one of those metalcore elitist idiotic fans. [/FLAME OFF]
Of all the ones in list... Batman is the best choice I would say.... his dark past, emotional problems, loneliness.... isnt that for what 'metal' is for....? to go tell the world.. i live my life with my rules..... i can see him in batcave... listening to real death metal stuff like bathory, king diamond, morbid angel... close second will be wolverine....
How about Spiderman? I mean, he does the devilhorns all the time His look may be fitting to... Industrial / Glam mixtour because he's all colours and shit and kind of ... weird.
Batman is definetly metal but considering his dark, brooding yet determined personality and striking fear into his enemies from shadows I cant really get where the Opeth impression comes from. Opeth is not Gothic/Tim Burtonish enough.
Batman is somewhere between doom and industrial. Although I don't actually know any band that would combine the two.
Spawn for sure. Didn't Iced Earth write a song or album or something about him? Plus, holy mothersh!tting brutality. No remorse.
was just watching the dark knight last night thinking about how metal batman was ha.
I do not like this list. I do not like it for one reason. As I scrolled down the list, I noticed that UG has failed to add in the most metal superhero of all time, Valhallen. Valhallen is the Viking God of Ragnarock n' roll. How can he be missing from the list?
To be fair, he's a parody of Thor (whether it be the Norse god or the Marvel super hero), so it doesn't really count.
Whenever I think of batman all I can hear is chimes of tim burton
How did Superman not make this list. He is literally "The Man Of Steel"? I do like the inclusion of Hellboy though
Superman really isn't metal. Although I do like him, he just doesn't seem metal with his attitude or his appearance.
True. Like I said, he is the "Man of Steel" though. And mainstream has nothing to do (Metallica). I do agree with the list otherwise.
    too mainstream to be metal
How is Batman less mainstream than Superman? Don't get me wrong, he shouldn't be on this list, but still.
Batman's easily less mainstream, ask anyone to name a super hero and it's usually either Spiderman or Superman that get the first mention. Other than that, lighten up, it's a bit of humour.
Sutperman is the ultimate boy scout. Batman is just as insane as the villains, he just uses that for good. Kind of.
Batman isnt even a SUPERhero. Whats he gonna do when he runs out of tools on his utility belt? Jump off a roof and glide to his enemy. Come on, they aren't equals, first off, and batman is just an underdog. And spiderman, well, there was that black suit time where he went hardcore and didn't care about what anyone said or thought.
Batman has learned every fighting technique ever! so if he runs out of gadgets he will just kick or punch a criminal to submission and considering he weighs in at about 245 pounds in muscle not an inch of fat on him is 6'2 he will **** someone up
How does "mainstream" exclude "metal"? Personally, I'd exclude him for being too much of a goody-two-shoes and not exactly evoking the feeling of throwing up the horns whenever you see him.
This list is atrocious! Simon Bisley not only created Lobo (Who's image is highly inspired by Bisley's close friend Danzig) also did the artwork for all of the following albums: Mayhemic Destruction (1987), by Mortal SinFirst Offence (1988), by First OffenceKilt by Death (1990), by Drunken StateThrall: Demonsweatlive (1993), by Danzig6:66 Satan's Child (1999), by DanzigGorgeous Frankenstein (2007), by Gorgeous FrankensteinLost Tracks of Danzig (2007), by DanzigAmong Flies (2008), by Last House on The LeftI get missing someone, but come on! The main man is by far the most metal character ever created. Not to mention Bisley did loads upon loads of art for the magazine/comic Heavy Metal. And if you have ever read a Lobo comic you see all of the musical influences in the character. He should top this list, and yet he doesn't earn a seat...
The huntress is pretty metal, infact where are the ladies in this list?
The Toxic Avenger! born from being bullied and dropped into toxic waste fought the devil and won, and from New Jersey! come on! and Lemmy was in one of his movies too!
Glad Punisher made the list, even though he isn't technically a 'superhero'.
The Darkness/Jackie Estacado Pretty goddamn metal if you've ever read the comics.
I say go with Raven, I mean her demon father raped her mother and she lived in another dimension for years. Every now and then her skin turns red and she gets 4 eyes and goes completely evil. That just screams power metal. Plus how do Spawn, John Constantine, or Venom not get on this list
Such a well written and informative article. Thank you for this piece of literary genius.
Music for trailer of Hellboy was the Dimmu Borgir's Progenies of great Apocalypse... you have to know.
