So in case you haven't heard yet, two of the most unfit choices for Mayhem fest have been added to the lineup for Mayhem Fest this year. These bands are hated in the metal community even more than bands such as Creed and Nickelback. Their fans are the most annoying part about them, however. Most, if not all of them are "scene" kids- the typical mindless, sheeple followers who are only interested in bands who are the most popular at the moment. When newer, more "popular" bands arise, they abandon their previous favorites because they're too worried about looking un-cool.

You can usually identify a "scene" kid by a few trademark traits- side flipped hair/swoop haircuts, eyeliner, lime green and hot pink clothes usually accompanied by some type of zombie or dinosaur imagery, skin tight skinny jeans on the guys, and white studded belts. They can also be identified by their musical choices. They constantly sing the praise of bands such as A Day To Remember, Bring Me The Horizon, Attack Attack, and the aforementioned Asking Alexandria and Devil Wears Prada, while bashing the heavy bands that have paved the way for such music to exist in the first place such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, and Death.

I'm not only writing this article for the sake of removing bad bands for the lineup, but as a sort of protection for the "scene" kids. Slayer and Slipknot fans in particular can be rather overbearing and a lot of them would have no problem starting a fight in a pit with a spin kicking, karate-chopping scene kid while in a drunken stupor. I'd rather not see anyone get seriously injured as well as keep bad bands off the bill. I've seen it happen before and it will happen again.

In conclusion, I beg of every last UG member to sign this petition not only to keep the lineup good, but to keep the entire festival experience free of any bad vibes and fights. The link to the petition can be found here:

Nickelback haters, do you see what you've done? You've made it acceptable to start petitions to get bands that you view as shit (in the case of Asking Alexandria I agree but it's the principle) from events. These bands quite clearly have fans who do want to see them at festivals and the superbowl and the like, otherwise event organisers wouldn't book them. If you don't like them, there will be other stages and other stuff going on at mayhem for you to do while these bands are on. These scene kids are there for the same reason as you, music they enjoy. Let them have their fun, and maybe they'll see better bands while they are there, and Slayer and Slipknot will get some new fans because of Asking Alexandria.

Dude shut the **** up, everyone has their music taste. Between old school metal and recent. Whoever decided to make this petion is ridiculous. There are plenty of people who want to see EVERY band on the line up. Including myself; I like both and for you people saying shit about Asking Alexandria and DWP fans being all scene kid. That is not true thats stereotypical everyone has their own taste. And if people want to see a band that's on the line up they have the Fucking right to. Every band on that line up should play. It's a good ****ing lineup. And I'll be happy to see asking alexandria and DWP and I'll also be happy to see slayer too. There is obviously a reason they are on the line up& if they are on it deal with it or dont ****ing go. It's that ****ing simple everyband works there asses off to be on a excellent tour like this one and if they get a opportunity to do than let them ****ing play . God damn!

they have lots of fans (not me included), and it will sell tickets, I can't see the promoters dropping bands because of a petition. I mean I don't like them at all but no matter how a person dresses they're just a person, doesn't matter what scene they come from. Like Crofty89 said aswell its about having fun and seeing the bands you like, and just because the "scene kids" like AA and DWP doesn't make them bad people, and they might even see Slayer or Slipknot and get into them

I laughed at your section on their fans and scene kids. i love TDWP but i hate Asking Alexandria, doeas that make me a scene kid? while actual scene do represent a small portion of their fanbase most of their fans arent scene kids, idiot like you just think they are because they like this dreaded "core" music.

You Have something against 'Core' music, yet you have a Parkway Drive pic. I'm Aussie so of course I like the band, but the last part of the comment made no sense. Good overall point though.

to Helloween_rox - Everyone has their individual taste in music, just because you can't expand your horizons and listen to bands that are different, it doesn't mean shit all, Asking Alexandria deserve alot more credit than what you've given them. Ben Bruce has managed to build a band from scraps and he has managed to create a band that can infuse rock, metal and electronic music all together, what have you done? besides being a complete ****wit, you haven't done anything that can even be compared to the level of standard that asking alexandria has reached, therefore, you can not judge them on if they are good or crap. your opinion is also invalid because, asking alexandria are releasing an album which is the musical baby of slipknot and motley crue (as they have stated many times). to conclude my post, your dad is susan boyle and your mum is a ****ing watermelon.

Exactly, I mean, I've also been hearing a whole lot about As I Lay Dying too, being all "emo" and such, guys, this is real stupid, people have different interests, you can't just simply jump to conclusions by saying they'll look "uncool" Lot's of people like these people and most of what you said are merely opinion, no matter how many people say so. Just enjoy your bands and don't worry about the others. Yeesh.

im a devil wears prada fan. i like there music. thats an opinion of mine. i also like metallica, and Iron Maiden. i also happen to be a sports guy not a "scene" person. i like these bands for there music, i go to there concerts for the music no matter what kind of "people" are there, becuase none of that matters. Your obviously not all about the music. Sure the Scene fans might go for AA and TDWP which means they wont be at the stage with all the others bands. It sounds to me like you just have to complain about every little thing. Also sounds like your hating on AA and TDWP because there "mainstream" along with there fans? thats so rediculous to caterogize all there fans into "scene" and "mainstreamest" because it turns out theres a lot of people who like bands because of there music and how they sound. not because of there popularity. Sure there are some people who, just go with the flow of popularity along with some of the fans who "have" or "are" Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, and Death. theres also "scene" fans of those bands too. you can enjoy the music, if your going for the music. IF you worried about who else is going to be there. sounds to me like your there to look at other people and judge them for it.

Seriously I mean AA is one of my favorite bands but you wouldn't see me in skinny jeans even if you had a gun to my testicles just because some kids like to dress like dumb ass's and try to be "cool emo kids" doesn't mean we all do I wear basketball shorts for shits sake. People need to get off their ****ing high horse and realize that they are turning into the same hypocritical *******s who ****ed with them in high school for listening to metal which is what this all is, metal, everything from black sabbath to suicide silence is just metal so be glad that we all aren't listening to wiz kahlifa and lady gaga
    Zackv94
And also "middle fingers up if you don't give a ****"- bring me the horizon .!..
    gaffers1996
I like every band mentioned in this post, from AA to Slipknot and that, does that make me a "scene" kid or a "metaller", no, just cos someone likes a band you don't doesn't make them any different to you, maybe instead of complaining, you should go to a different stage, that's the point of festivals, to have variety so there's someone on for everyone.

Are you serious? You must be one of those fags stuck in the 70s. Metallica should not even be considered heavy metal considering they all suck IN MY OWN OPINION of course since you have the freedom to share yours. Why bash on other peoples interest in music? We all have our different tastes in music. Even if you didnt start it, you forwarding it is just as bad. This music can be considered metal in a lot of ways, but do you need to be over 50 and have your own signature "metal" guitar to be in the heavy metal band?
    MonsterMetalMus
I signed, but I don't think that they're seriously gonna be taken off of the lineup. I'm looking forward to seeing how the fans react to them this year, should be pretty entertaining.
    Helloween_rox
I actually didn't start the petition, I'm just forwarding it to as many people as possible. Mayhem fest is supposed to be a metal fest, these bands fit way better on warped tour. I'd rather not see Mayhem turn into that.
    joshua.2wright
People need to shut the hell up about AA and TDWP and shit like that. they are popular for obvious reasons, they have fans who aren't just 'scene-kids', and they write some great music. I'm a fan of both bands, and many more like them, so on behalf of the anti-haters, SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT POINTLESS PETITIONS AND CRAP BECAUSE YOU WON'T GET ANYWHERE!!!!!

Honestly I am very confident in my guitar playing ability, I am an eighteen year old music composition major, have been playing a range of instruments since the age of 4, and am a frequent contributor to this site. I am also a metalhead. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and even Avenged have influenced me and my band and I have no problem with bands like Asking because they keep kids listening to heavy music. Hate to break it to you but the old school bands we love are not so popular anymore and despite popular belief we don't live in the 1980's. If bands like that are becoming a standard for "hardcore" music its something the community will have to learn to embrace because we live in a world where hip-hop, rap, and pop is king. If the Foo Fighters can win best "Metal" performance at the Grammy's I will accept Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon, and other Sumerian-esc Bands. No one is saying any of these guys are virtuosos, talented composers, or even A grade guitarists, get over it people like it.

This is such an immature thing to do. If you don't like the bands I understand that, but they have a huge fan base and people that like to play their music. Doing this is basically trying to stop people from playing music they like. That's just ignorant and whiny. No one cares if you don't like the bands. How would you feel if they removed the tabs to your favorite bands? So just let it go and let people learn the music they love. P.s Grow up
