Introduction:

Rage Against The Machine special. This feature contains 3 riffs by Rage Against The Machine. The first is the main slap riff from Take the Power Back, the second is the bass intro to Calm Like A Bomb and finally theres the guitar and bass unison in the intro of Bombtrack. Enjoy.

Take the Power Back:

This riff is played for most of the time with the slap technique although there is a section during the song where it is played with fingers. It can be fairly tricky to get all the muted notes in but with a bit a of practice it shouldnt be that difficult. The are a few variations of the 4th bar of the riff which havent been tabbed out. 80bpm     e e S S S S S S S S S E.   e e S S S S S S S S S E. ||---------------------------|--------------------------| ||o-----------3p0---------3--|-----------3p0---------3--| ||o-----3h5-x-----x-3h5-x----|-----3h5-x-----x-3h5-x----| ||--0-0----------------------|-0-0----------------------|

  e e S S S S S S S S S E.   e e S S S S S S E E E |--------------------------|------------------------|| |-----------3p0---------3--|-----------3p0---------o|| |-----3h5-x-----x-3h5-x----|-----3h5-x-----x-3-4-5-o|| |-0-0----------------------|-0-0--------------------|| Click here to get a midi file of the tab above.

Calm Like A Bomb:

This starts with a pickup bar of 3 semiquavers so on the midi there are only 3 beats of count in then a 16th note rest then it leads into the solo. Like Take the power back this isn't too difficult, although it can be a little tricky rhythmically. Again, its not too hard with a bit of practice. 76bpm   H.       S S S S   E S S S S S S +S  S S S S S S S |----------------0-|-2-----------0-(0)-0-------------| |------------2-4---|---4-2-0-2-4---------2-0-----0-2-| |------------------|-------------------------4-0-----| |------------------|---------------------------------|

  E S S S S S S +S  S S S E E |-------------------------------| |-4-0-------0-2-(2)-2-----------| |-----4-2-4-----------4-2-1-----| |---------------------------2---|

  E S S S S S S S S S S +S  S S S   E S S S S S S +S  S S S E E |-------------------------------0-|-2-----------0-(0)-0----------|| |---0-----2---0-0-4-0-2-(2)-2-4---|---4-2-0-2-4---------2-0------|| |-2---2-4---4---------------------|-------------------------4-0--|| |---------------------------------|------------------------------|| Click here to get a midi file of the tab above.

Bombtrack:

I've tabbed this in the 7th fret position because I think it sounds a lot better than the open position even though it may be a bit harder to pick up, but if you want to play it in the open position you can move everything down 5 frets and down a string, or you can look at the tab on UG. The main thing to watch out for is the trill in the 3rd and 7th bars, also in the last bar there is a crescendo on the open E's which leads into the main riff. 80bpm   S S S S S S S S S S S S S S E   S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S |-------------------------------|---------------------------------| |-----------------------------5-|---------------------------------| |---7-5---5---------7-5---5-7---|---7-5---5---------7-5---5-------| |-0-----7---7-5-3-0-----7-------|-0-----7---7-5-3-0-----7---7-3-2-|

  S S S S S S S S S S S S S S E      S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S |----------------------------------|---------------------------------| |-----------------------------5tr7-|---------------------------------| |---7-5---5---------7-5---5-7------|---7-5---5---------7-5---5-------| |-0-----7---7-5-3-0-----7----------|-0-----7---7-5-3-0-----7---7-3-2-|

  S S S S S S S S S S S S S S E   S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S |-------------------------------|---------------------------------| |-----------------------------5-|---------------------------------| |---7-5---5---------7-5---5-7---|---7-5---5---------7-5---5-------| |-0-----7---7-5-3-0-----7-------|-0-----7---7-5-3-0-----7---7-3-2-|

  S S S S S S S S S S S S S S E      S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S |----------------------------------|---------------------------------| |-----------------------------5tr7-|---------------------------------| |---7-5---5---------7-5---5-7------|---7-5---5-----------------------| |-0-----7---7-5-3-0-----7----------|-0-----7---7-5-3-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-| Click here to get a midi file of the tab above.

    I don't see much merit to these-- just mediocre, IMO. Saying that it's "fairly tricky" or slapped except sometimes fingered doesn't really give any insight.

    grandprix_83: Hey dude... u never mentioned it but all these riffs are in drop D. Figured someone should point it out. Otherwise good riffs, gotta love Rage!!!
    erm sorry dude, you're WRONG. Take the power back is in drop D but bombtrack and calm like a bomb are in standard so think cefore you speak mister know it all
    O_o
    They don't put riff lessons on nobodies that you just named. Rage might not be pure funk, but are definitely better sounding than those dudes (...Louis Johnson, Victor Vooten, Stuart Hamn or Les Claypool!)
    oh.....my....god get out, don't come back. plus for your information, theres already been as bass lesson for Tommy The Cat by Primus. so think before you write.

    Rage is awesome but this should definately be a lot harder.....even tho the riffs are awesome they need to be a little bit harder....if anyone has the bass riff for anything real i would like it if yall could tell me so i could get it(even tho i have most of it)

    Rage rules!!! but I already knew how to play those. Rage knows how to funk it up, especially Take the Power Back!
    r_lightning: If ya want real funk, tab some of Louis Johnson, Victor Vooten, Stuart Hamn or Les Claypool!

    Incubus_SCIENCE: easy bass riffs... i think they should be more challenging...
    Eloy montes: you stupid idiot (not me guy above me)
    Uhm, you should shut up, becuz you're the idiot here.. What the poor guy only meant was that he wanted a better challenge, and I f*cking agree with him too.. I mean, come on, we're on bass riff part 12 now! If ya want real funk, tab some of Louis Johnson, Victor Vooten, Stuart Hamn or Les Claypool! - I agree with Incubus
    ringobassist: Would it be insulting to ask why the bass is played by a robot, or is the person playing it got no emotion, or am i too fussy
    Are you telling a bad joke right now, or is it becuz of your bad english?

    These are all incredibaly grand bass riffs, but seeing as how I love Rage, I already know them all! Still, it's nice to see Rage get some recognition. Great riffs indeed.

    the midi of bombtrack has the link going to the midi file for "take the power back". instead of the link reading "b12a.html" at the end it should read "b12c.html"

    Yeah, me too. Fix it

    ^Pretty much, yeah. Just the overall structure of the riff-- basic things like scales, chromatics, etc.

    yea, well i had very little time to do this due to personal reasons so its a bit rushed...anyway, what do you mean by more insight? like the theory behind the riff etc or something else? any suggestions on how to improve these (and also on other stuff to do since i dont have one for next week yet) would be appreciated

    I thought it was quite good to like train your fingers, if you try to play it over and over again with adjusted speed, but I also agree with WindJammer, some more insight would be nice
