Wednesday Question: Best EP of All Time

EPs with original material, no singles, no split albums...

Ultimate Guitar

For this week's Wednesday Question, we'd like you folks to focus on all the EP records that have been released over the years, and answer this little thing right here:

What's the greatest EP of all time?

Just so we're clear, EP is a music release that's longer than a single, but not long enough to be a full-length album

IMPORTANT NOTE: Singles and split albums don't count, we're looking for EPs with exclusively released original music.

THE RULES - post only one suggestion per comment after checking that your favorite wasn't already nominated (Ctrl+F and all).Multiple nominations of one EP create heavy confusion, since on one hand it's unfair to the given effort to take into consideration only the most upvoted nomination, but seeing that multiple nominations allow one user to give two or more votes to the same record, it's also unfair to other nominees not to discard it.

Finally, vote up the ideas you support and vote down the ones you dislike. We'll sum up your votes by Friday and bring you another traditional UG top list. Show us what you got now!

Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies

I hope this stays on top. It shows a completely different side of AIC, whereas a lot of EPs are just songs that didn't make an album.
That EP was a religious experience for me. Front to back. The bass was just absolutely mind blowing on it. I've listened to it probably once a day since like 2009 when I discovered it.
No question this is #1. It has never been out of my rotation since it came out. Best EP ever.
It was also the first EP to hit #1, may be the only but I'm not sure if another has done that since. Definitely the best EP of all time.
Good one but I prefer SAP. Rawer and dirtier. Hopefully it's in this list somewhere.
But still... knowing how these Wednesday question things go Jar of Flies will probably be last on the list if it even makes it.
An amazing album, especially coming on the heels of the unmitigated masterpiece that was Dirt, and made all the more amazing by the fact that the band wrote and recorded the EP in two weeks.
    Alice in Chains - Sap
blew me away when after hearing facelift. didn;t expectan acoustic gem. great piece of music.
Yes! After Jar of Flies up top, I was looking for this. I like this one much better. Such good raw acoustic music.
one day as a Lion is one of my favourite EPs
Can't believe the list went this long before ODAAL came up! Probably the closest thing to RATM we will get any time soon. So raw and powerful. Between fighting all those guerrilla wars, Zack can still pump out some good tunes
Oh, how can I forgot this?! Primus - Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People
My Bloody Valentine - You made me realise After many other minor EPs this was the first taste of what was to come in their full-lenght efforts. I think they still play all of these songs live, it's the only EP that they still consider this much and the reason is clear: every song sounds like first-class album material, nothing is worth of being called a B-side, pop melodies and cutting noise finally find the perfect balance.
Definitely agreed. Even RYM people rated this as one of the best EPs of all time!
Russian Circles - Russian Circles Band's debut EP - though it was later rerecorded and these recordings are more raw than the later album versions, it's still great.
Cocteau Twins - Tiny Dynamite Amazing record from an amazing band.
At the drive in- Vaya ep...can't believe nobody said this one.
I learned of these boys in reverse - TMV to ATDI. While I don't know it, and am ashamed, I'm glad you'd throw some light their way. Danke! (Honestly, I'm probably more familiar with DeFacto than ATDI).
i did control f to find this, it was gonna be my vote too! such a great EP!
Smells Like Children by MM or purely my choice but Gonjasufi's M.U.Z.Z.L.E.
Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy Maybe, one of the best electronic EPs ever - besides the title track (aka "Pappy Mix"), it contains maybe of the best Aphex's tracks which are exclusive to this release.
Good call, I actually kind of prefer the "Little Lord Faulteroy Mix" on this album to Pappy Mix anyway.
Coldplay - The Blue Room Not a fan but I think it should be mentioned.
Celtic Frost - "Emperor's Return" P.S. Please don't forget to include the text in your nomination next time because the title of the video isn't showed to most users.
    R.E.M. - Chronic Town
I moved to Atlanta just before they released this. I had never heard anything like it. No one cared if we couldn't understand what Stipe was saying. Welcome to the 80s...
Yes for Nirvana - "Hormoaning"! This exclusive tour EP contains a lot of really great B-sides.
    Mostly covers so won't count.
NIRVANA is one of those bands whose covers are always better than the original. Except of course for the live Led Zeppelin jams they did lol
In your opinion that may be the case but the question asks for "original music" I believe Blew is nominated further down, that doesn't contain covers.
Dying Fetus - Grotesque Impalement Cult EP by brutal death metallers.
Boards Of Canada - In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country Maybe one of the best electronic/IDM EPs.
Burial - Kindred Just trying to expand music boundaries - EP from the guy who popularized the whole future garage and intelligent dubstep genres.
Probably nobody knows this band an EP because it is a local band with no international exposure but Passenger - Get of the Rails is a great compilation of songs! Heavy stuff!
