Wednesday Question: Greatest Musician Named Dave

For this week's traditional Wednesday Question, we'd like to kindly ask you folks to think of all the Daves of the music world and answer this little thing right here:

Who is the greatest musician named Dave?

  • Post only one Dave per comment after checking that your Dave wasn't already nominated (Ctrl+F and all).
  • Multiple nominations of one Dave create heavy confusion, since on one hand it's unfair to the given Dave to take into consideration only the most upvoted nomination, but seeing that multiple nominations allow one user to give two or more votes to the same Dave, it's also unfair to other Daves not to discard it.
  • Vote up the Daves you support and vote down the Daves you dislike.

We'll sum up your Daves by Friday and bring you another traditional UG top list. Show us the Daves now!

If davids also count... This guy single-handedly brought down the berlin wall.
    Way Cool JR.
The Hoff gets my #1 vote.  He was a Soap star, mother fu*#n' Michael Knight, Mitch Buchannon & great drunken antics like the shirtless hamburger incident. All that while being a music superstar.  He actually seems like he would be a realy cool down to earth person too.
    Rodney Trotter (British Joke)
Rodney - Why do you call me Dave, Trig’ - My name’s not Dave, Its Rodney. Trigger - Are you sure? Rodney - Yes, I’ve checked it on my birth certificate and everything, its definitely Rodney. Trigger - So what’s Dave, a Nickname ‘like? Rodney - No - you’re the only person who calls me Dave, everybody else calls me Rodney - and the reason they call me Rodney, is because Rodney is my name.  Sorry, but not sorry, that's one of my favourite bits.
Dave Davidson, this Dave is two Dave, so better then all other Dave's
He's the guitarist for Revocation and has reinvigorated thrash. Brilliant dude, super underrated.
    David Bowie
HAS to be the winner - all the other Dave's here are major in their respective fields, but not sure if anyone else influenced music as much as Bowie.
While I agree, should he count? He's always known as David rather than Dave...
    Dave Brubeck
Definitely, "Time Out" is one of the greatest jazz records of all time, right behind "Kind of Blue"
I wish i could up vote this more than once. His quartet was one of the best ever me a sax player that has never heard "Take Five". Paul Desmond was one of my inspirations when i was a sax player. I always used to challenge my best friend who was the pianist in our jazz group by suggesting we'd play more of his songs.
He shouldn't count in this pool but yeah
'Best musicians named Dave' "Dave Mustaine shouldn't count" What?
For how easy it is I mean. But I forgot its UG and those 14 idiots there can't see beyond their nose, how the fuck im especting people to read between lines...
Jones of Monkees, God have mercy on his soul, one of the pioneer of Pop Rock music.
    Dave mother fucking Grohl !
I'm surprised I had to scroll so low to find Dave mother fucking Grohl !
This should easily be the winner. Mustaine, seriously? It's Grohl all the way
grohl in nirvana yes but everything else is just watered down garbage except for them crooked vultures that was solid
Rodney Trotter (fans of the show will get it) - drummer extraordinaire! If not, then David Thewliss on guitar.
If it's a girl they're calling her Sigourney after an actress, and if it's a boy they're naming him Rodney after Dave.
David Tibet (Current 93) Amazing experimental musician, one of the godfathers of dark folk/neofolk
    Way Cool JR.
Dave Meniketti of Y&T.  Great guitar player, great singer and still going strong ever since the early 70's.
this whole article can best be described as "these are the Daves I know I know, these are the Daves I know"
