Lyric Heaviness: 7 Most Meaningful Songs in Rock
If there's one thing the ultimate rock masters know, it's how to touch the listener with deep lyrics. So join us for a brief rundown of some of the most meaningful tracks in the genre's history. We're just scratching the surface here, so feel free to make a contribution or two in the comments.

John Lennon - "Imagine"

The ultimate song about peace and love, John Lennon's "Imagine" is probably the most fitting opener to this list. "You may say I'm a dreamer / But I'm not the only one / I hope someday you'll join us / And the world will be as one."

Nine Inch Nails - "Hurt"

Johnny Cash version might be even more appropriate to some, but we must give credit where credit is due, so kudos to Mr. Reznor for making one of the deepest songs in history of rock.

Leonard Cohen - "Hallelujah"

This one needs no introduction - Leonard Cohen and "Hallelujah."

Pink Floyd - "Time"

Bound to make you think with every single listen, Pink Floyd's "Time" has a magical way of making you both happy and sad at the same time.

Metallica - "One"

A representative of the metal domain, Metallica's "One" tells a disturbing story based on Dalton Trumbo's 1939 novel "Johnny Got His Gun."

Bob Dylan - "Tangled Up in Blue"

Mr. Dylan simply can't be avoided with this kind of list, so we'll bring up the tune that took him "10 years to live, and two years to write" - "Tangled Up in Blue."

Rage Against the Machine - "Killing in the Name"

This one's just bound to get you all rebelled up every time you hear it, hence a shoo-in spot on the list.

As noted, we've just scratched the surface here, so if you have any other notable songs to share - do it in the comments.
