Well, I won't be going back for a while. We're opening a new flagship store in HK, and I'm building up the 'generic' playlists for the staff to use if the public don't bring their own tunes. So I'm based there for a while, basically watching films and listening to music. My life is HARD.

Really wish Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were priced reasonably.

Actually on further inspection, the turntable was damaged more thoroughly during one or both of the two moves my wife and I did within two weeks.

Just ordered an Orbit Plus

It sucks the player was damaged, but this is a good excuse to get a new one.

Just ordered some LPs i've been wanting for a while and found for great deals.

Yumi Zouma - Yoncalla

Enter Shikari - Take to the Skies WHITE, The Mindsweep BLUE OPAQUE   - OK so these were £45 for both with postage, but worth the extra cost for the edition and direct from their site too, happy to support them directly!

Red House Painters - Rollercoaster album

There's two albums coming out that I'm looking forward to
1. Enter Shikari - The Spark. Cool limited edition signed vinyl available for pre-order but I only buy vinyl for records I listen all way through, so pre-ordering vinyl is dangerous when you can't hear all tracks.
2. Gang of Youths - Go Farther in Lightness. Heard a few of their new tracks live and were good, but they've got so many songs on this new LP that some might be skippers so again, no pre-order.

I'm holding off buying Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie. I have that many records in my collection now that I have a few i've bought and not had the time/mood to listen to yet as it is so no need for haste.

Was looking into the Tool vinyl situation this week and man does it suck. Their first two records have been pressed and are being sold for a fair price. Aenema has one original press that goes for no less than several hundreds, rest are bootlegs that still fetch a price. It doesn't look like Aenema will be reissued anytime considering the artist for the album gave them a lawsuit years back. They reissued Lateralus officially and it looks fantastic and can get it for £32 but the problem is the records on picture disc and everyone who has it agrees the sound quality suffers from it, can hear the noise especially in quieter sections. 10,000 Days may get a future release, but here's to hoping.

Considering Tool are a band that doesn't stream and wants their work to be listened to in full, they make it really fucking difficult to get a hold of their stuff without bootlegging. They would make so much if they reissued their discog on vinyl today.

Oh yeah, also waiting for good deals on Blood Diamonds 45 Phone Sex feat Grimes and 7" Osaka.

I'd like to see this thread more active with discussion.

So what records are on your most wanted list?

What's out of your price range?

Who do you wish would release/reissue their work?

What's your take on pre-ordering vinyl?

What's the most you've ever spent on a record? What was it?

What's the best deal you've found?

What's your favourite record & why? (as in the artwork/appearance of the record, straight up sound, not related to the musical content)

So what records are on your most wanted list?
hmm, really nothing specific. probably anything i already own, vinyl or cd/digital, on whatever colored or special sleeve it had in its initial runs.
What's out of your price range?
pretty much anything over $20 for a single LP or $10 for a 7" right now. I've spent $50 on a test press 12" and $15 on a 7" before tho.
Who do you wish would release/reissue their work?
For Science so i can get their other 2 records on vinyl. maybe some other Ergs shit. Dead Milkmen, Devo. problem with some reissues is they end up being overpriced. like the My War vinyl i found last month for $25.
What's your take on pre-ordering vinyl?
i pre-order when i can. gotta try and get the alt cover/colored variant etc
What's the most you've ever spent on a record? What was it?
that'd be the $50 (possibly $60) on a Degenerics - Generica test press.

i think i was drunk.
What's the best deal you've found?
i missed it, but my old favorite record store Curmudgeon (RIP) had a first pressing of The Dead Milkmen's Big Lizard In My Backyard for $25.
What's your favourite record & why? (as in the artwork/appearance of the record, straight up sound, not related to the musical content)
Night Birds - Midnight Movies: the grotesque/juvenile artwork on the sleeve
Mischief Brew/AJJ split: clear vinyl, concentric grooves (i've explained them here before)
Mikey Erg - Fucifer: clear red flexi. square shaped
Mikey Erg - Valentine's Day EP: clear red vinyl, heart shaped
Ergs - Ben Kweller EP: first Ergs thing i ever bought
Adolescents - s/t: pink vinyl reissue, the soundtrack to drinking and doing drugs with punks in my dorm room instead of going to class. mixed memories.

edit: also i do like that the really good reissues come with those static resistant plastic sleeves.

also also i finally popped open my copy of the newest Descendents record and it's clear sea green

The most I have spent on vinyl was Dark Millennium's Ashore the Celestial Burden at 45.

My price range stays consistently around 50, even then I don't pay more than that. Unless It's Bathory first press, or LLN material, I wouldn't go higher than 100 (stingy, but those albums sell easily for 1000)...well I might pay stupid amounts, but probably only for Bathory.

Preordering vinyl I usually stick to represses or limited releases. I see no reason to do it otherwise. I don't have an inherent problem with it though.

That being said I haven't preordered vinyl in recent memory. Not like I can with wages + shipping + cad conversion rates. I usually just buy used stuff from local places.

My most wanted are reasonably priced Summoning albums. One of the most magical experiences is listening to summoning, but the last batch of represses were sold out quickly due to scalpers. Maybe Arggoslent but I haven't kept up with the scene to see if they came out with anything lately.

My most wanted unreleased thing vinyl is EASILY the Nier: Automata soundtrack.

My favourite records are my Grand Belial's Key represses and the HANL - Deathconsciousness repress. The former because they are vile, disgusting black metal on a format hard to come.by for the band
The latter is because of its difficulty to get..but mostly because it just resonated with me on an emotional level for so long, and It's still something I can go back to.

Deals are far and few between these days. Best deal I found was Inquisitors Walpurgis: Sabbath of Lust on CD, I got it for 50. At the time it was around 300.

So what records are on your most wanted list? I don't really have a want list, I just browse record stores & see what's there

What's out of your price range? it all depends on the record & how I feel that day

Who do you wish would release/reissue their work? if I could just have Loveless on vinyl

What's your take on pre-ordering vinyl? it is cool if there is something coming out that you know you want -- I have done it in the past, but I haven't really kept up with new music since like '13/'14

What's the most you've ever spent on a record? What was it? I spent $45 on a 1st pressing of Unknown Pleasures

What's the best deal you've found? idk

What's your favourite record & why? (as in the artwork/appearance of the record, straight up sound, not related to the musical content)
I have Dee Dee King's "Funky Man" single -- it is a bad song, & I never pull it out to listen to it, but it is such a goofy piece of Ramones apocrypha -- 1st pressings of Unknown Pleasures &154 -- 1978 pressing of Marquee Moon -- dorkrockcorkrod on yellow vinyl hmu jake

So what records are on your most wanted list?
Currently Alchemy Index by Thrice or El Cielo by Dredg

What's out of your price range?
Alchemy Index by Thrice seems to usually go for a few hundred dollars.

Who do you wish would release/reissue their work?
I would love a Dredg vinyl, so I wish they'd reissue their El Cielo vinyl that they did a few years ago. Other than that, I'd like Xuefei Yang's album of chinese folk music transcribed to classical guitar. Would be a beautiful record.

What's your take on pre-ordering vinyl?
I have no take on this

What's the most you've ever spent on a record? What was it?
Just the usual, probably about $30 for I Forget Where Were by Ben Howard or some other modern two-disc record I have. This week I'll spend $50 on an Antoine Dufour release.

What's the best deal you've found?
Not objectively a great deal, but personally valuable - I found a great condition Tango in the Night by Fleetwood Mac and got it for less than 10 dollars. It's my favorite album of theirs, so I was pretty stoked.

What's your favourite record & why? (as in the artwork/appearance of the record, straight up sound, not related to the musical content)
I don't have any records that are very visually artistic or anything, but probably Strange Trails by Lord Huron. They cultivate an entire mythology/story around their songs and albums, and Strange Trails is a perfect example of that. The whole thing is a self-contained world, it's fantastic.
My God, it's full of stars!

Do you guys buy outside your niche very often?

I do it every now and then (HANL/post punk in general). An overwhelmingly amount of collection is metal obviously, but you put a good punk record in front of me (Or some god damned motherfuckin William Ackerman) and I'll bite.

Finding a first press of Rudimentary Peni's Death Church or And Also The Trees...' (grammar withstanding) Green is the Sea would delight me more than 95% of the metal I own (price has locked me out a bit)

I really enjoy The Dead Milkmen too (sorry, at least Beelzebubba). Punk Rock Girl was my youth. Haven't heard the rest of their material though.
#3908
severed-metali highly recommend just about all of the Dead Milkmen.

more recent stuff is a bit less inspired, but still good. their 80's albums are really the meat of their work.

Big Lizard and Metaphysical Graffiti are my personal favorites (along with Beelzebubba) Eat Your Paisley and Bucky Fellini are both solid, too.

still put on a good live show.

to answer your initial question: not really, but i should.

price is what usually keeps me away from anything outside my niche tho. like i check out the hip hop section at my local store and all the Beastie Boys, Wu-Tang, NWA etc is all vastly more expensive than the measly punk records i buy (with the exception of some stuff like Black Flag and The Damned)

although if i have enough time, i'll flip through the bargain bins and buy things like this one 60's Batman 45. I don't have enough time with work tho.

gonna drive over to this record store in PA this weekend and see what they're about. their site males it seem like they're a bit more with it than my local spot.

it sounds lame and very cliche, but i think my taste is eclectic enough that no one genre dominates my collection. But tbh if I ran through them all there probably is some common thread.

the last record I bought was radiohead's pablo honey jus' cos I wanted to expand my RH collection lol Before that probably Brian Eno or something

I sold all my by vinyl a year or two ago for a combined total of about $1400. I don't think I miss them. I'll give it another year to decide.

I do miss having every limite Dead Meadow release for that cred to.

Looking through some places in Bordeaux for vinyl and wow. Some of the prices are just mental. €50 for The Wall lol.

I did find Sonic Youth's Goo mint for €12 which I will regret not getting probably. And also saw The Cure's Pornography mint for the same which is by far the cheapest I've ever seen.

Also was tempted to buy Beirut's first two LPs but I was right to not buy as can buy cheaper online.

Bought on discogs Siamese Dream. Took a couple of weeks but £36.50 mint is pretty fair. Cheapest else I could find is £38.

I am now really interested in this even if just for the novelty of it and not to listen as much... So cool. The Voyager 1 Golden Record that was Kickstarted.

Managed to get LCD's This is Happening for £20. Cheapest I've ever seen in the UK. Also had a store owner tell me that Sound of Silver is sold by Warner to stores for £21 so thats why so many ask for £30+ Looks like I'm gonna be waiting a while for that one.

Looking today in Vienna stores and the prices are just not sustainable. You'd have to be a fool to bother. We're talking €26 for stuff that you can find for £15 and sometimes €50 for stuff worth around £23.

picked up some shit today:

Blowfly - The Weird World of Blowfly LP

Butthole Surfers - Pepper promo 10"
Nirvana - Sliver single
J Church - My Favorite Place
No Age - Eraser
Bracket - Stinky Fingers

Bracket is all around a pretty shitty band, but i've always loved the one song on that EP since it was on Tony Hawk's Underground

Wow I got an absolute steal just now.

Been wanting Mellon Collie 4xLP for months now. When I first looked on Amazon they were like £77 and thought it was overpriced even then. Turns out more recently they're going for no less than £92 anywhere in the UK. I did manage to see it at £84 for a day but hesitated and it went back up to £92+.

Just now I found it on Ebay in mint for £63 including first class postage. Christmas came early boys and girls.

On my trip away I bought like 16 records, and have bought more since too.

Hopefully one I bought from Japan for £35 doesn't get caught with custom handling fees. It's rare and worth around £45 anyway but still...

Oh yeah I ended up giving in on buying Lateralus picture disc and it definitely has noticeable surface noise but it's listenable. Have to listen out for dynamics another time next time I listen.

Got it for £30 which is £10 less than most so couldn't resist.
