The title of this one is 10.6 or 10.7 so I figured I would just roll with it, pick a number, and call it 10.8

I'm pretty sure the thread title is an OS X/Windows joke. OS X 10.6 and Windows 7 had both just came out or were about to come out at the time the thread was made.

IIRC, paintitblack was an ardent Mac user, which is probably why the thread is named what it is.

Shows you how much I know about Mac.

We can keep it simple then with the tech support line.

we're not even halfway to the maximum posts allowed in one thread...

The main page is outdated, lacks many good resources for helping people, and doesn't exactly have a comprehensive list of what our skills are or specialties. Besides, keeping it updated could be helpful to people who have questions that are easily answered so we aren't answering the same question every other day.

i don't think any of that would be helpful though, no one would ever look at it and it would soon become out of date as well

also we don't really get enough posts to complain about answering the same question everyday

For what? What kind of features do you want? Etc.

Do you want a mechanical keyboard?
Do you want a num pad?
Do you want a keyboard that's LED lit?
Do you want extra buttons for macros?

But since Damien practically lives in this thread, if he did the first post he'd be able to keep it edited and up to date. I like the idea - even if people probably don't read the first post that often.

Thank you. I am glad I am not the only one who thinks that. At this point I am just going to PM all the pit mods and see if any of them reply to me.

Just got a response. Good to go with the new thread. Sucks I am at work though so it will have to wait till a little bit later for me to get it all together and pretty.

Are we going with the "turning it on and off" title?

Sounds good to me, classic tech support response.

If you're still looking for folks to list as 'experts', I'd happily go down for Intel/nvidia/guy-to-talk-about-hardware-when-Damien-isnt-around.

Mechanical yes, numpad not really fussed. I've never used one however,
Led lit. Yes, ideally. but not essential

Macros never used, but I dunno.

Well you have a few options most of them being Logitech or corsair. Just remember mechanical keyboards can be loud as all hell with the typing and clicking.

Follow this link and just about every keyboard on that list is something that you can choose from. Not all of them are mechanical, but when sorting through that stuff, there are far to many for me to link individually. Take a look at those and decide which ones are ideal for you, re-post them here (or in the new thread if it is up), and we can give you an idea if they are awesome or not.

EDIT: Here is a second list of mechanical keyboards for you to take a look at. They aren't labeled gaming and I can't speak for 90% of the manufactures, but it is another list to look through if you find the prices to high for the other keyboards. All these should be mechanical, but I am not 100%.

EDIT2: The second list is not strictly sold by Newegg. It is there none the less. I however would spend some extra dough and stick with one of the keyboards from the first list.

Good. I needed an Intel and nVidia guy. I might be running an Intel but I don't know them anywhere near as well as I do AMD.

paintitblack used to post over 100 times a day on the forums (just guessing, but he was a pit mod so it's probably true)

the point is that it might get too rigid and people not on the approved lists might feel reticent or perhaps even avoid the thread

Paging Damien...

So a friend of mine on another forum wants a PC
"to run Total War series games."

He has no brand preference, and I figure such a tame game would warrant an AMD setup. He just wants price estimates at this point.

In the UK so New-egg is useless for me. Also takes me to the New-egg homepage.

Edit: Just ordered a Blackwidow for an awesome price.

It's not an approved list. It is a reference list. I plan on making the post very welcoming to beginners and veterans of computers alike. If someone has a specific question about "topic X" then people who see the first post can always look and say "oh hey, someone could know the answer. I haven't seen them post in a while, maybe I can PM them." or something to that extent.

We have always been accepting and accommodating in this thread (except that one post about RAM increasing HDD space not to long ago, pretty sure that was a troll) and I see no reason why a nice first post/front page refresher will put a damper on that let alone giving people a list of references who are knowledgeable in a certain topic.

Look into the Corsair CH and Corsair K series gaming keyboards. Also Logitech G710, G105, and G510 are great choices too. The G150 and G510 aren't mechanical though.

Personally I am still using a Logitech G15. Love that thing. I just wish it came in full black with red led back lights.

Macros never used, but I dunno.

I would suggest you choose a Cherry MX switch colour.

The switches are colour coded, Red and Black are linear (red is easier to push, black is harder), Blue and Brown are tactile, (blue is clicky, brown is not).

http://www.keyboardco.com/blog/index.php/2012/12/an-introduction-to-cherry-mx-mechanical-switches/

Personally I don't like all the fancy LED crap and macros, so what you want is the opposite of what I looked for when I bought one. I reasoned that I don't look at my keyboard and I don't want to. I got a custom one and got blank keys Was extra expensive to import from the US though.

http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/

For your needs, only gaming peripheral manufacturers really make stuff with LEDs in. Check Logitech, Razer, Corsair, I think they all make good stuff.

Tip: If something is listed as a "Stealth" or "silent" keyboard, it's usually because it has brown keys instead of blue keys, since the blues are clicky.

Any other requirements besides "run Total War" ? I mean hard drive space, graphics level, etc, etc. Even a price range would be helpful. Does he have an OS to instal? Does that need to be figured into the price?

Otherwise, yeah I can have something thrown together anyway, that bit will just be helpful.
