That would frustrate me to no end, so I applaud your patience.

I've unfortunately never played an Elder Scrolls game on PC, which really sucks, because I know there's so much I'm missing.

I'm sure you already know what you're missing, as I was on the same boat

Once you get sucked into mods, the vanilla game can never compare again.

Downloaded a bunch of the "realism" mods. They're really cool, in theory, but I think probably because of my computer's limitations, they don't half slow things down - instead of my pressing the button making me just lean over and skin a deer, or set up camp, I have to wait for up to a minute for the action to register (and when I'm not sure if I've actually hit the button, the prompt menu comes up twice).

Still, it does make playing as a hunter-chap a more interesting option than in the vanilla game, so I'll keep at it.

I have this problem too. I like to pretend that the delay is my character sorting the shit out to make it less annoying

What do peeps mean by playing the hunter? Like, what more are you doing than killing deer for venison? I'm assuming mods n shit make it more fun but I'm curious.

@Thrillhouse nah, jus' xbox. I'm not a big gamer but I can easily slip into skyrim obsession at any given moment. And even if I was a PC player, I wouldn't want to make those battles any more difficult

Yeah it also makes enemies a lot smarter. I started a new game last night and the "boss" you kill in Bleak Falls to get the dragon stone was a solid 5 minute fight, plus I got killed the first couple times. I was level 12. I like it but it's not for everyone.

Yeah, it's torture knowing how good Morrowind *could* look

(although I've grown pretty fond of Morrowind's graphics, to be honest)

Guys, do I become a werewolf? It feels like peer pressuring into drinking

Srsly tho, how does his affect me?

You won't get the well rested "bonus" after sleeping, but you can turn into a werewolf and fuck shit up. That's about it.

I've heard that the realism mods are great, but that after a few hours of playing, the novelty wears off and it just becomes tedious.

I can see that - I've started a separate character for them. I suspect there'll come a point where once the character has enough money and carrying capacity to just carry the shit around, it ends up like you say, as a bit of a nuisance. But to start with, when I can't quite carry or afford all the stuff I need, it makes for some weirdly trivial but frantic stuff. I just spent an hour trying to cure myself of diseases, fatigue and hunger all at the same time, staggering around Riften trying to work out where the chapel was.

Finally got back to Skyrim after a while away. DL'ed a hotkeys mod that means there are actually easy-to-use, convenient hotkeys. I have such a hard-on for this game stylistically. Dark, snowy, dragons flying around, it's so 'me'. By which I mean it's the kind of setting I enjoy in fantasy, I don't think I'm some kind of dark and edgy kid.

EDIT: I'm sure you all know this, but just in case. I find that changing the timescale helps when you're playing with realism mods. Otherwise you'll find your character getting hungry and thirsty every few minutes, so you spend more time eating than you do actually doing stuff.

Well... pretty sure the Elder Scrolls games are older than The Pit. I definitely played Morrowind before joining UG.

Damn, I just realized that this thread is older than Skyrim is.

I got another eso beta invite. I hardly have to work this weekend at all so i'm gonna try to stick with it for a few hours each day.

And this is why combat mods increase enemy health.

Honestly, I'm not sure why dragons aren't partially immune to backstab.

cause there's only 1 you can actually do it to (at least on console)

health increases don't make much difference to me anymore, my dagger base damage is 212 lol

If you're thinking about it, do it now. That shit will take almost a whole day to DL. I got screwed out of my first invite that way. Should've known better...

Oh man, another round of ESO beta testing? Thanks for the heads up, I might not have checked my email today. Edit: I get to keep my characters from the last beta test! Awesome!

I played some Daggerfall the other day (I bought the Anthology, so now I have all five games) and damn is it tough. I played for like half an hour, died before saving, made a new character, played for probably an hour, and I'm still in the very first dungeon. Still oddly pretty fun though. It's interesting to see how even the change from Daggerfall to Morrowind streamlined so much and cut out a lot of skills, much like Morrowind->Oblivion and Oblivion->Skyrim.

I just wish there was some way to make the DOSBox screen bigger without making it fullscreen. The normal window is so small it feels like I have to squint to see things, but the resolution on fullscreen is so awful it hurts my eyes.

Edit: There's a sidenote on the invite that mentions extra invites on curse.com. I can't access that site right now because I'm at work and the web filter is blocking it, but the email seems to imply that you can go there and get a beta access key even if you didn't sign up previously or get an email invite. Can anyone confirm that?
Edit2: Bleh. Nevermind. I checked it from home and you have to have an account at that site. Too much trouble.

Well, I probably won't do it. Simply because I'm not sure I want to get sucked into another MMO. They just take up so much time. I'd rather focus on RPGs, because I don't have to be there for a guild or friends to do dungeons/raids.

Started a new game of Morrowind a few days ago. Decided to finally make a magic character in a ES game. Never done it before, usually stealth or melee. Was never really a big fan of magic in any RPG really. Super op. Magic is crazy good, alchemy in particular. My fights basically boil down to calm humanoid/creature, then just poison them until they die while they just stand there

i need to play either Oblivion or Skyrim sometime soon so i can get sadistic and paralyze people, then slowly stab them to death.

also so i can replicate this one video i saw years back of this guy using paralysis on NPCs standing at the top of a staircase so they ragdoll down the steps.

I was thinking about starting a new game of Oblivion last night...

And then I ended up looking up mods and installing them for like three hours and never even started a character. Whoops.

Isn't that so awesome though?!

It is. I can't believe how much I enjoy modding since I spent most of the time just researching them.

But with Skyrim, I played it before I modded. With Oblivion I haven't even started a character since I installed. I'm half expecting to go too far with it and it just crashes when I finally try to start a character.

Hm. I always thought Illusion in Skyrim sucked ass, but I guess I need to play with it some more.
#10150
Illusion is pretty shit imo, only useful in the very beginning and when maxed out. But you don't need a high level for playing pranks with innocent animals or citizens
#10152
I've been tempted by SkyRe for a while, but I have so many mods that I'm hesitant to install it.

Plus it's recommended that you install Frostfall along with it, and from what I've heard about Frostfall, it's interesting at first but gets really tedious really fast.

It's kinda balanced by the lack of regeneration though. But yeah it's epic to murder gods and jump over cities with one little hop.

I'm having an intense modded Morrowind thing going on right now. I'm playing a Redguard called J'Dargo, who was raised as a Khajiit in a Khajiit family, and thus has all the cliche Khajiit skills like Unarmed, Sneak, Acrobatics. Fun as hell.

Okay good. That makes me a bit more interested in it, honestly. Thanks.

It's a really great mod if you've played vanilla Skyrim for a long time. Adds a lot of cool stuff.

I'm currently re-installing Morrowind with a fair few mods. Going to finish the bastard this time, I swear.
