Guys, slipknot5678 is trolling, he's posted on this site for ages. He used to have a cockatoo avatar.

Dammit, now I remember him...

Slipknot's self titled and Iowa are fantastic albums. More aggression on that self titled than 95% of death metal, and I don't care what anyone says.

You sure Slipknot's not metalcore? Because it's really low-tuned and aggressive for Nu Metal.

Other than that, I'm not sure how someone can find them sucky. Unless they're talking about All Hope Is Gone. The 1999 self-titled debut is golden.
Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow will take it away
The fear of today
It will be gone
Due to our magic songs

I literally just discovered this band, and I think they're extremely catchy and decent all around. Their early stuff, especially, is amazing. Have you guys ever listened to the song Slipknot off of MFKR? It's sooooooo sick. 'Sic' is good, but holy god 'Slipknot' is the true, superior version. Put on some nice headphones and listen to that song.

Don't know if I'd agree with you there. I kind of view them as completely different songs. I love all the welding samples in "Slipknot" though. Speaking of MFKR, the first time I heard "Do Nothing/Bitchslap" I couldn't stop laughing at Anders "Come on y'all!" and the background "ohh ohh!". Morphogenesis26 pointed it out too a few posts up.

Really. 'Slipknot' is the pure, un-****ed-with essence of 'Sic', and while both songs are great, 'Slipknot' has one moment in it that gives me more goosebumps than any single moment in 'Sic', although 'Sic' has more good moments overall, if you get me.

Nu metal was founded on detuned 7 string guitars. There really is no tuning too low for nu metal.

Slipknot is kinda weird. They came out in the midst of the nu metal popularity. It would be wrong to say they weren't nu metal to an extent. They have a dj and some embarrassing rap like vocals. They have some silly dissonant noisy Korn like riffs.

Even with that said I think that they have just as much death metal influence in their sound on Iowa. Their later stuff was more alternative metal inspired. They are sort of trend hoppers.

Regardless I don't care. They were the first heavy band I ever listened to. That was about 13 years ago at the age of 14. The teen angst bullshit was appropriate for me back then. I still really love Iowa. I think it's the heaviest mainstream metal album that came out around that period. Slipknot is one of those bands that make my purest death metal friends cringe in embarrassment for me when I say I still like them.

I'm sure a huge reason I still like it is nostalgia but I don't care. I'll never forget seeing them play the heretic anthem on Conan. I was just like holy shit, how is something so heavy on a late night show aimed at the general populace? Now it isn't so strange to see live performances on tv from way heavier bands than slipknot but back in the 90s it was crazy.

Why are people so desperate to put slipknot into one of these odd metal sub-genres are people so desperate to purify the idea they have in their heads of what is "real metal"? Stop being such snobs FFS. What are you metalheads or hipsters? If you don't like it then turn away, noone's forcing you to like it, let alone listen to it.

New album's out tomorrow; it's already up for streaming. I'm about to pop it on; I'm pretty excited to hear it. Any of you guys listened to it yet?

Yup, it's better than All Hope Is Gone by a large margin.

Been listening to it all day; it's a solid album. Definitely reminiscent of Vol. 3, and I can see what people are talking about when they say it has some Iowa sound in there too.
