YES!! First time I heard that riff, I got goosebumps. Also Black Sabbath by (obviously) Black Sabbath. The opening/main riff is evil as hell.

And if you don't count the 17-odd seconds of non-riffage at the beginning of the song: Blackest Eyes by Porcupine Tree

Also, I'm But a Wave To...

Actually, most Cynic songs fit the bill.

Cynic - How Could I?
(after the synth section)

Death - Evil Dead

Both just set the mood for the rest of the song so perfectly
and I don't care if I live or die,
because I ain't ever going to no other side,
there ain't no heaven and there ain't no hell,
but I am a sinner so it's all just as well

Slayer - Hell Awaits, listened for the first time@ 2 in the morning, trying to sleep, and was scared ****, until the singer started singing. Still gives me goosebumps...

Iommi is incapable of writing a bad riff. In fact, his worst riff would still be better then the best riff any of us could ever write lol

A Certain Shade Of Green by Incubus. Seriously, that riff never fails. Ever. Also, hearing it live was something else.

By Incubus I'll also stick in Privilege, Circles and New Skin

Plug In Baby and Hysteria by Muse, and while we're on Muse, I'll mention Filip. I heard ot for the first time today and love that riff.

P.L.U.C.K by SOAD has a pretty badass opening..crescendo. Also, Soil and Forest.

Them Bones just kicks in awesomely.

Blood And Thunder, Black Tongue by Mastodon.

Children Of The Grave by Sabbath.

While we're on Alter Bridge, I'll add in a riff that hasn't been mentioned, but I love it: Show Me A Sign. Awesome intro.
Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise

It's not my #1 favorite. but "Big Wiggly Style" has a pretty awesome opening riff/breakdown/youdon'tjudgeme.

But, for seriously, I'd probably say "Silver" by Jesu. It's not a "riff", per se, in the traditional sense, but it's still fantastically good always.
