In cubase, select the section/region of audio you want to process.

right click, process menu > pitch shift > draw envelope of effect > click process.

right click > audio menu > bounce selection.

can you do something like that in garageband?

Hey odirun, you're definitely doing something you're not telling us. The leads fit so well with the rhythms, you are definitely scooping out some frequencies! TELL !

No way! That'd completely defeat the purpose of this! The signal chain and EQ is exactly the same for the rhythms and leads besides the amps!

Nada, bounced straight from SD2.0 Avatar kit, no processing in or out.

I have. Unfortunately I don't have the cash to buy half the shit the guy is talking about so most of it (although not all) has gone to waste. Plus, I honestly don't like the way he mixes things. The lows aren't even audible in the mix.

Fair enough
I just use his advice as a starting point, then go about it how I would feel it needs to be done.
You could go with Antress's plugins for just about most of the stuff he is using. (Free)
(Besides mics XD I'm using a Konami USB microphone as we speak. )

I'd suppose I'll take a swig at this and see what I come up with. Heck, I might do a mixing thread like this in the future.

Here is a rough cut for the moment being:

Awesome guide but for me the X50 and TSE 808 VST sounds terrible, not at all like yours :/

Hey man I dunno if this thread is still kicking, but I've got some guitars that have are really overpowering in the lower frequencies. I'm using a special tuning that drops to C but there's still a lot of "womp" stuff that's drowning out some of the higher notes. I'm using a Dean ML with stock pups and a basswood body. I've got to use a High or Low pass filter, and the frequencies to use...?

Thanks in advance

Hey. It really depends; with out hearing it, it's impossible to suggest frequencies. I'd suggest starting your high pass at 100 then slowly moving it up until the boominess is gone. If it doesn't go away until something like 250-400, try a bell scoop in that area while keeping the HPF around 100.

Generally speaking, woof and boom resonance on guitar tracks, in my experience have been around 250-350hz.

If you still find the lows too overpowering, try a low shelf around 250hz and decrease its gain to taste.
Let's party.

i just want to say I was messing around on bass today and I double tracked similar to the way you said (a little different on the settings though) and i must say i got an excellent bass tone for what i was going for.

The 808 is perfect for what I had been missing

first two links for drums and guitars seem to be dead, can you fix it?
#62
Hrm, I must have accidentally cleared them off my dropbox, I'll see if I still have them somewhere. If anyone else still has them and can upload to dropbox or mediafire or something, please go for it.

OH please, please, please, fix those links! Or upload the stems again or something, this definitely looks like something I could REALLY use!

Yeah, the first two links plus some others are now dead, including the catharsis IR link.

Thread was probably due an update anyway bro. I remember the outcome of this tut sounding like ass compared to what you can do now.

Obviously you don't have to give away your secrets, but this thread probably did need an update to fit with my recent VST's even if we ignore the previous fact.

It'd be nice if a new tutorial thread was done, maybe with some coverage of LeCab2. (I just decided to try out this IR; it seems really powerful.) I've been doing some research and trying to get a decent tone, but a good tutorial would be cool for others, I'm sure.

Edit:
Also, covering saturation would be cool. http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/ has some a good saturation VTS (free, of course).
