I can suggest a few Canadian players. Jack Semple is an outstanding Blues and Jazz player from Saskatchewan. Oscar Lopez and Jesse Cook are tremendous flamenco guitarists both now located in Ontario. Lindsay Ell and Rob Stokes are probably the best Albertan guitarists they both play multiple styles.

I recently was introduced to the playing of Francesco Fareri, an amazing virtuoso player/composer. Also Matthew Mills has some mind-blowing neoclassical skills.

Takayoshi Ohmura

he started a band a few years back called cross hard, which was pretty damn good, but didnt become successful and were disbanded after first EP. that ep had some amazing songs in it, hard to see ow that failed. since then hes released 1 solo ep and 2 other solo albums. didnt become much successful at that either though, those albums were damn amazing with vocal appearances of singers like doogie white and richie kotzen. now hes been reduced to being a rythm guitarist for marty friedman(aint that bad to play behinf GOD, but aint good enough for a demigod like ohmura), and being support guitarist for some singers and session guitarist. underrated beyond belief. his picking technique should be of interest here on UG, its damn perfect by all standards.

That guy was amazing. Take Van Halen and Rhoads, roll them together and you have Oliva.

Anyway, yesterday I heard Andy Timmons for the first time...oh my god! What the hell? How come he's not as famous as Satriani or Vai? He's amazing!

Not really too unknown, but I love Marco Sfogli's solo stuff - (Invalid img)

also an extremely underrated fingerstyle guitarist, Andy Bacon. I just discovered this guy and love his stuff - (Invalid img)

Jim Thomas: doesn't really take solos in the conventional sense, but my god, his technicality, originality and songwriting are awesome.

My favorite is Wata from the Japanese band Boris. She channels Hendrix in her best moments. This is some of the most emotional guitar playing I've ever heard.

And he's not really unknown, but I think Leslie West is a criminally underrated guitarist. I love his tone and his phrasing.
