Well, under punk, I think "Six Pack" by Black Flag is a really good bass line. I think it's easy.

But I'd really add "Dawn Patrol" by Megadeth (metal). The song is pure bass and drums, and I'd think it'd be a medium.

You know what would be really sweet? Having a beautiful bird inlaid around the first fret, taking a majestic dump with airborne droppings around the 5th, 7th, 9th frets and so on, with a graceful impact around the 22nd-24th.

I was about to shout you down then I listened to the track. Definitely an easy. Might be tricky to remember the parts but certainly on the beginner side of technicality.

Nothing Muse do fits into EX for anything besides piano and drums. That said, everyone needs to learn New Born for the finger strength.

Not that I want to get into an argument but if you want to hear what "EX" in that category sounds like, listen to YYZ and Spirit of the Radio by Rush.

I also don't want to get into an argument, but if those songs are extra hard then there needs to be a new category for stuff like spawn of possession.

I think I just took the word of the last thread on that one and didn't check it out myself; thanks for the correction.

I recommend Flight of the Warrior from the band Riot. As for the instruments I prefer the cover done by Hammerfall but the voice from the Riot version is incredible! No matter which one you chose, you'll have fun, and you can jam along the solo because it's a simple major scale song.

And for the more adventurous ones - Duran Duran -Rio. Get the whole solo down if you can!

The Ancient (Giants Under The Sun) - Yes - Progressive Rock

I've been working through this one and I'm not sure what to call the difficulty. It's easy at some parts and pretty hard at others, the hardest part being getting the wah work right and just timing in general. It's very dissonant and divergent from orderly measure at times. Either way, a very, very fun song.

Time for me to make a contribution out of a strange corner.

Extremely fast and fun song to learn. Will definately challenge your endurance as it also lasts 5 minutes and is nearly completely filled with straight eights.

Song: Aya Hirano - God Knows
Genre: J-Pop
Difficulty : MD/EX (learning every single lick and fill as its played in the original will take some time)

Primus - my name is mud - alternate rock???

difficult. Took me about a week to get it down then another month to realize I was playing it wrong so took me another week to master it.

But it's fun to learn if your looking for a challenge.
And it's Primus so be ready for just about every bass technique

EDIT: by the way by red hot chili peppers is a blast to play too.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Walkabout from One Hot Minute - Medium
Fun song to play with great bass line and a part with an auto wah pedal. Flea used the boss FT-2 Dynamic Filter to play this.

I think Schism by Tool is more of a metal song than alternative rock.
