A guitar or amplifier can be an investment as well.
I'll be using it for my schooling in the future, why would you settle for something mediocre now and not be able to afford better quality later, when you could just get the better item now while still being able to afford other things you need.

I'd rather invest in a quality amplifier for recording with Pro Tools at school than record a project on Garage Band and an M-Box.

You guys are arguing over something that will never end, so my advice is to stop now. They're personal opinions and views. If Charvel1995 wants to finance an amp, it's his money and his investment, so it's his choice. This forum isn't for financial advice, it's for advice on Guitar Gear & Accessories.

I guess in a way financial advice could be included in this discussion, just because of the whole budget etc etc etc.

But yeah, I'll be checking out the JSX this weekend or next.

Personally, I financed my Vengeance. I'm just saying that this would be a never-ending argument about something that doesn't need argued. If he wants to finance gear, it's his business and his choice.

I've played a JSX, and they're pretty awesome amps. I was quite impressed. I think you'll be quite happy with yours.

From videos on youtube I am quite impressed with the JSX. For me, it seems like it'll be a HUGE upgrade from the 6505+. Less noise, better cleans, more versatility.

A couple of things though. It's missing the knobs for the effects loop on the back, not much of a concern though, since they still function and I don't much care for how it looks on the back. How exactly do those work? Since it's discontinued, would Peavey have an online manual for it at all?

Also, how different are the JSX Custom Speakers compared to my Celestion V30's? He has the matching cab with his amp, and the speakers are JSX Customs, and I haven't found much information about them at all. Other than that they're a Greenback clone (can't confirm though). Are they similar or vastly different? I have to travel to his jam space to try it out and I don't feel like lugging my 4x12 to his place.

Also, in the event that the tubes must be replaced, could I do that myself, or should I have a tech do it? I'm getting more interested in setting up my own gear. I.e Guitar set ups (getting all needed tools), amp maintenance etc, etc.

I would kep the cab you have, if it's V30 loaded. The JSX speakers might be okay, but they'll never live up to V30's in terms of quality and sound. That would definitely be a terrible trade for you.

As for the loop knobs, if it's JUST the actualy plastic knob, it's not a huge deal. If the actual pots are missing, that is definitely a problem. Those are (probably, I don't know the back panel of a JSX) the send/return knobs, which are an integral part of the loop. You need those to prevent clipping in your pedals and to maintain unity gain when the loop is active. If the pots are missing entirely, that probably means the loop is useless, and that would make me wary of trading. If it's just the knobs, you could probably get replacements from Peavey, but they'll still turn without the plastic part.

Tubes are pretty easy to replace. The Preamp tubes (the smaller ones) are just plug-and-play. You get new ones, take the old ones out, put the new ones in, done. Power Tubes are a different game, though. I'm not familiar with the workings of the JSX, but Power Tubes (the big ones) most likely have to be biased unless the amp is fixed bias or something similar. That's a process that I'm also unfamiliar with on the JSX, as each amp is different. I'm spoiled, as my amp has exterior test points and adjustment knobs, making it about as difficult as adjusting your EQ. I'm sure you can find an online manual that will help with those questions, and, if not, someone on here should know more than I do.

Im keeping my cab; just trading heads.

The JSX has a bias switch. All i have to do is flip it one way for EL34's, and then the other for 6L6's.
So would i essentially buy the tubes, flip the switch and plug them in?

Your price is way too high, that's why no ones contacted you, you're scaring away buyers because they don't even want to bother giving you an offer with it listed that high. I assume they sell for a bit more in Canada, but here in the US, I wouldn't even touch a 6505+ for more than $800 (and even that's REALLY pushing it, cause you can get a used 5150 for $300 less). "Like New" condition means absolutely nothing. My 5150 is in "Like New" condition and its over 10 years old, yet no one is going to give me $900 for it.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Finding a 6505+ in my area for $800 is rare.

I also got responses.

But, I got the JSX, so thats sort of irrelevant now.

I still couldn't really say. I'm not the person to ask on this. That could be a fixed bias thing, or it could be to adjust the amp for the difference between the two types of tubes, as most amps can run only one or the other, not both. I imagine if you Google it, you could find out. If not, one of the guys on here will know, as the JSX is a pretty popular amp.

This model is the older one without the simple bias switch, but basically the same in every other respect, I got it home and it's in perfect working order, gonna do a NAD tomorrow when I can get pics.
