Hello everyone
To be quick, I am looking to buy a new guitar.
I'm looking for something that bridges the gap between death metal and blues/poppy stuff.
I have a budget of about $900-1,100 and I am looking to buy new.
I would prefer stop/hard tail but I'll look at guitars with floating bridges as well.
Any suggestions?

You need to be more specific.

What kind of woods do you want?

What body style?

What brands were you considering?

What neck profiles do you like?

What pickups that you want?

What construction do you want?

Where do you live?

Those sorts of questions. All you've specified is your budget, what kind of music you play and that you're not sure whether or not you want a fixed bridge or a floating bridge (strat type, floyd rose?). You're just not being specific enough.

As far as tonewoods go, I'd like something that's lighter but it's not really a concern for me.

I like thin necks, i.e. Wizard II or Jackson CR necks

I like active pickups, EMGs...I like DiMarzios as well

I've also been looking at 7 strings as well, it's something else i've been considering

Hmmmmm, in that price range, check out:

Carvin for quasi-custom

G&L or Godin for really good HSS/HSH/HH "Strats" (with or without trems)

Richmond (Godin subsidiary) Belmont HSS (available with Bigsby)

Fernandes Ravelles & Dragonflys

Malden Karma or Bad Karma

Reverend Double Agent (bridge HB, neck P-90), Manta Ray or Warhawk

I was asking more about what sort of woods you want in regards to tone, not nessesarily the weight.

Lots of guitars out there that have active EMG's with all sorts of different woods, constructions and so on.

So you're not even sure if you want a 7 string?

I don't want to be judgemental, but you don't seem to know what you want from a guitar. The only way to resolve that is by playing lots of guitars and seeing which ones you like the most. Cliche answer on these forums i know, but its true.

With your revisions...

Carvins still work.

Both of those Fernandes have EMGs available in their Deluxe line, as well as the Sustainer. The Ravelle can have a LFR, but not the Dragonfly.

Godin's Redline II & III are nice, EMG equippedshred machines. The III has a FR. The Core EMG has more of a LP body.

Some form of fixed bridge, I'm not an expert in bridges. All I know is it has a wizard neck, it's in your price range and it won't look out of place in any musical genre.

Versatility is going to be mainly dependent on your amp. There are pups that are decent for blues and decent for death metal, but the pups don't make your sound. Your amp does. To be honest the pups don't even matter THAT much, your amp is going to do what your amp does regardless of what you feed it. If your amp is already capable of doing what you want, then you can play with pups to fine tune your tone.

In any case, it does sound like you're describing an Ibanez. I'd say go used and get a nice Prestige. If you must go new, that Premium is probably decent. They look rather overpriced for what you get. Also note that for $100 more you can get a NEW Prestige, which I'm sure is in a whole different ballpark.
