Hey guys. I usually hang out in the GG&A thread but I felt like I needed to post my updates on my new (and first) custom guitar. I am not making this guitar myself, although I am planning on building one in the future. This one was done by a fellow and friend named Brian Paul, who owns a shop in Addison, Texas where he makes them all by hand.

I was aiming for a PRS-style doublecut, and he specialized in doublecuts and looked at his work and was instantly convinced. I drive out there every chance I get to take update pics.

Anyhow, here are the specs:

Woods: Honduran mahogany body, quilted maple top, curly maple neck, rosewood fingerboard
Neck profile: 25" with about a 9.5" radius and 22 medium jumbo frets. Diamond-shaped pearloid inlays that I found on StewMac that I really liked.

I should have made a thread back when it first started but I never frequented GB&C so it never crossed my mind.

Anyways, here is some pics from square one:

Yes I was rude, and I was aggressive and I was offending a large group of people. But I was civlized about it.

Below is when things start to come close to the finished product. The green that he made absolutely blew me away. The back is actually going to be painted black and come to a point on the back of the neck join (a custom touch he adds on all of his builds). Really excited at the fact that it's almost done. A few weeks!

Does anyone know if that setup he's using to shape the neck has a name? I've never seen that before.

The guitar looks pretty cool, but I don't understand why it has such a big neck heel.

I am paying $2100 when it's all said and done. The pickups I decided to use are GFS Fat Pats with gold covers. Wraparound bridge. All gold hardware.

He built that machine himself, I don't think it sells on the market.

About the heel, seems pretty normal to me

That doesnt really make a difference. Bad orange peel is bad orange peel. Must take him forever to sand that out.

I guess
