When I Play I hold my pick with my middle and thumb while resting my hand on the bridge. People say that the proper way to hold the pick is index+thumb. However, I can play faster with middle+thumb and its easier for me to strum. Does anyone else play like this I feel like I'm the only one who holds their pick like this.

You feel like it's easier because it's what you practiced. I would personally recommend you make the change and stick with it because in my opinion it is better to have the three fingers left free for things like tapping and hybrid picking.

be honest with yourself. if you are really "good" with your middle+thumb and have been "good" for years, then i wouldn't try switching back. otherwise, i'd try switching back because of the reasons Zaphod said.

I took lessons for years. My instructor taught me to use index and thumb. That's what I teach my students. It is standard accepted technique.

You are not the only one. Watch some videos of CSGuitar89 on Youtube and you will see you are not the only one.
Ayy there

Yeah, I knew a dude who played like that, and he was really good. I don't think there's really anything wrong with it, unless it's causing you pain or discomfort. It may make tapping harder, as mentioned above, but it's really your call if you wanna deal with that or not.

my guitar teacher holds it like you, and he's awesome. i guess if you're a beginner you should switch to standard anyway though

I've been playing in this position since i started playing over a year and a half now, the only trouble is hybrid picking and tapping but I hardly even use those techniques.

a year and a half is nothing... try to change it for a couple of months and see where it goes. it will do you no harm!

Neither did I when I'd only been playing a year and a half, now I use them all the time. It is better to leave yourself with the option of doing things easily in case you ever need them rather than forcing yourself to make seismic shifts if you ever find that to be the case in time.

I read somewhere that Van Halen held his pick between his middle and thumb and tapped with his index finger. Maybe you are just an enlightened soul? =]

He also doesn't hybrid pick and only taps with one finger. Seriously, holding the pick between the index and thumb is the most versatile way to do it.
