Hey UG my peavey classic 30 finally bit the dust and don't want another classic right now I have 600 USD to spend we play quite a bit of old rock or 70's and 80's rock and need some lower gain on the amp that sounds good I can always add a pedal for higher gain applications. I also need an effects loop and a master if possible. Any suggestions would be appreciatied thanks.

Surely someone can offer some insight on this website, I know sound is subjective but you guys are the masters of sound and tone.

Vox AC15 or preferably AC30 if you get a good deal
Carvin x100B
Eganter Rebel 30

Id suggest a Marshall JCM800 but even used they hardly come up for 600.

I'm in one of the great plains states and yes I do have a cabinet but am after a 1x12 combo that I can take home to my garage studio.

Hey thanks for the suggestions
But the Carvin is way too big and loud and the Jcm 800 I have had but don't need now
The rebel 30 I hated. Haven't tried an AC30 yet

What about the jet city 20 watt combo with 2 channels and effects loop do you guys know if that one can do low gain sounds fairly well, think old Rush or Zeppelin tones.

Jet City 20 is pretty good. I think it'd handle Rush and Zeppelin quite well.

AC30 for sure man.

AC15 if you don't want clean headroom (at gigging volumes).

I hear they use false bypass switches.

It's, like, so ironic.

The JCA would do the job though i am more inclined to like the 50 watt head.

Also the Carvin has a master volume so it can be as quiet as you want it to be. My friend owns one and it does the job at bedroom levels if needs me. Though i will grant the fact that its very big lol.

Doesn't the jet city have more gain on tap than the vox ac15 or 30? And the jet city doesn't have any of that low end flab or where you lose note definition does it?

if you're talking the jet city 50 watt head, it's a modern high gain amp. i'm not sure it's what you want.

traynor yc50b maybe?

I saw in a couple of pictures that on Bucketheads Les Paul (only some pictures) that his neck pickup is painted in white. Can anyone explain to me why he would do this, and if there are any pros and cons.

The guy wears a KFC Bucket and a white mask during performances, and you're interested in the color of his pickup covers?

The AC30 have a fair amount of gain, a lot more noticeable when you put the master volume up. Otherwise just stick a pedal in front of it if your not happy.

They take pedals extremely well, and the clean channel is to die for!

I was referring to the 20 watt head and I have read that it does classic sounds as well.

the Vox amps have enough gains for what you want to do and imo have a better voicing for your purpose. Ofc taking budget in mind the JCA is the best value. If you feel the Vox didnt have enough gain an OD pedal would get you where you wanna be.

I have a friend who owns the JCA 20w and i love it, though i mugh prefer the sound of the AC30. But it all comes down to your personal taste so if possible try them out.

^ i think the 22 watt head has the same preamp as the 50. that's not to say it won't do lower gain overdrives, just it doesn't sound that authentic. it doesn't sound terrible or anything, just worth bearing in mind if that's the main tone you're going for.
