True story, but I never really knew what skate punk was. I could tell I'd hate it based on the name though, and sort of figured it'd sound like NOFX sounds.
#3
I dislike skate punk because all skate punk songs seem to have that really annoying double time drum beat that has no variation and doesn't really mesh with the song at all.

Rancid, Old bad religion, bouncing souls, Descendants, goldfinger, Hot water music (kinda), some flatliners (off of destroy to create), suicide machines, anti flag, lagwagon(little bit), the vandals. Just to name some.

i don't get why '90s-double-time-drums skatepunk is called skatepunk, because it seems more fratty than skatey.

bands like JFA, The Faction, and Government Detox are keut, though. nardcore sux on the other hand.

like 5-6 years ago, i used to periodically visit the myspace page of this one crappy band. i thought they were charming. here: http://www.myspace.com/thenonamedrock

n.e.way ts probably will like No Use for a Name if he doesn't know them already, which he probably does. also maybe Swingin' Utters? idk, not sure if i've ever heard them or not.

gOD I hate this. Ruins everything, although luckily most bands that use it aren't gonna be good in the first place.

I don't particularly mind the gratuitous double time.

now i'm sorta having this weird nostalgia for when myspace was a thing, though. also deathcore, which of course i never was interested in. weird how some people i know's myspace profiles still exist, it's like these ppl are stranded in time. kinda wanna start using myspace, because it is like a ghost town, so free. but of course there must be more than one person for it to be a ghost town, otherwise it's 'deserted.' anybody want to join myspace w/ me? if not i think i am going to anyway.

Belvedere?

I always chuckle when I see shitty old Alberta bands mentioned in places like this. Like when people talk about chixdigged or SNFU. It just seems strange.

I don't miss skate punk. I do miss street punk though. I had this animosity towards it when it was popular but now that it's gone I find it much more charming.

oh god that's how i feel about everything. that's why i mostly only like old ass music and never like anything when it's relevant.

i think maybe i will start using tumblr, because tumblr is more like 2008-myspace than 2012-myspace is.

Nah, I do like early AFI though if you'd consider them skate punk. Still not as good as their Black Sails-Sing the Sorrow era though.
I'm the same as I was when I was six years old

Sometimes I start to kinda like a band, but they sound way too skatey for me to actually like. I don't mean like skate punky (because I still only have a vague idea what it sounds like), but like take None More Black for example, they sound too skateboardy which is a shame because I almost like them. Also their name sounds like some terrible modern rock band or something.

Boy Sets Fire maybe? You might like them.

This is another band whose name sounds like terrible modern rock or maybe All Time Low type pop rock or something. Who thinks these names are good ideas.

Seriously? Look, if you don't like the band name that's fine, it's obviously not for you. But don't go around assuming their music sounds terrible just because of it as if you'd know that. That's a pretty immature assumption to make.

For the hell of it, here's one of their songs. Take it for what you will.

I know, I know, it doesn't sound very skate-y. But their older stuff kinda does though.

Oh I'm somewhat familiar with their music (or at least a song of theirs I heard a while ago), I was just complaining about arbitrary stuff.

Yeah this is true. I feel the exact skeleton vest joke is sorely overlooked. It's not even on Youtube. Also "you can't dust for vomit".

in a few years, will i like 'twinkly emo' and regret not liking it now?

Emo's still a thing? I thought dissapeared completely a few years ago and its erstwhile enthusiasts all got into indie or dubstep or something. Maybe it still exists in isolated pockets throughout smalltown america though. Who knows.

well i'm talking about the cap'n jazz derived bands that seem to be popping up, who don't have anything to do with 2006-hot-topic-emo (or so they pretend).

Oh gotcha. I've been calling that stuff "Jawbreakercore" because I thought it was mainly meant to sound like jawbreaker. There's a bunch of bands like that around here nowadays.

To be fair, it's not really all double time stuff, there's just a specific way of doing it that's just bleh. Like Traffic Street by Rivethead is awesome but then NoFX does it and it's...not great.

Though it might just be something else about skate punk but I dunno. I'm just gonna say WOO RIVETHEAD!

also, seeing as how the topic is on skate punk, am i the only one who thinks bands like nofx would be bearable without a vocalist? i really really hate that early/mid 90's so-cal punk voice that all those bands seem to have

Is this even a real genre? I don't really care about genre tagging. I think I like whatever this is, the THPS soundtracks are cool.

I think it's a real genre, maybe a grey area but there is a certain list of bands that were embraced in the skateboarding culture. Many that could just simply be called punk rock i guess but I don't know Skate punk seems to have it's own thing.

And yeah I dont know about all the thps but the first 2 definitely had a solid soundtrack.
Jackson DK2
1962 Fender Esquire
PEAVEY JSX 212
PEAVEY 6505+ 112

most of the fun is in the soundtracks (which is saying something cause the games are awesome) but i wouldn't call a lot of the music in those games "skate" punk simply cause you're skating to it
