Have never had braces, teeth are okay enough. They aren't perfect, but they don't really impact anything and I'd prefer the current situation over braces or w/e would have to be done to make them "perfect"

I was going to have braces a couple of years ago (when I was 19/20ish), but the orthodontist told me I'd need corrective jaw surgery to reset my overbite before braces would do anything helpful, and I ****ing hate surgery so I said no.
Stuck with wonky teeth now

But I know quite a few people that had them at that age. Never seemed out of place.

Well that's good to hear.

I might surgery as well though..all 'cause a dentist said to wait it out.

I'm currently having some orthodontic work & i'm 20 .

I've got a brace to fix my overbite at the minute. Once you get older your jaw sets and it becomes more difficult to fix it. It could take up to 2 years of wearing this brace for a good 12-14 hours a day. I just wear it when i'm at home though so it's easy enough.

Once i've made some decent headway with that you can get a retainer like one (I.e. it clips in and out) and that will straighten your teeth pretty goddamn well. It'll bring them into line, but not up and down. You don't notice it unless you see a before and after like my orthodontist showed me, but with fixed braces the teeth all end at the same point, making your teeth look perfect.

You can get braces which run along the back of your teeth, but they are apparently an absolute nightmare so dentists hate them. You can also get fixed braces where the brackets are nigh on invisible (not the colourless ones which you see a lot of kids with), so effectively you just have the metal wire on show.

Anyway your best bet is to just speak to an orthodontist about all of this, he'll clear up anything better than the pit can. Not to mention you could get there and say "I want X type of braces" and he could say he doesn't do them. Bare in mind it will cost you a fair penny. Mine are going to cost me £2000-3000, it just comes down to how much you want it.

I'm pretty sure the source that told me that I could get them for free was talking out of their arse. After researching costs I won't be able to afford it. I mean, I could get myself a boob job for around the same price.

No you have just missed the cut off point iirc.

It's worth speaking to someone about, i mean they may be able to shoehorn you onto the NHS list (I'm presuming you're english).

Aye I'll still get an appoint with my Dentist (or orthodontist idk) and see what the craic is and what the NHS can do. My teeth aren't that bad though so I'd be suprised if I got preference over most.

I decided to get braces when I was in my early 20's and I'm glad I did. They were on for 2 years and I was fine with that. 2 years for a lifetime of good looking teeth. It was a major confidence booster for me. Do it.

Always been a curiosity. With braces, would you cut a girl if you were going down on her?

I had braces until I was almost 19. Yeah it may seem like a big deal, but having nice teeth later in your life will be worth it.

I got braces when I was 13 for about a year and a half. They did a good job but I'm convinced they changed my bite when I clench my jaw, it isn't aligned. But **** it, doesn't bother me.

On a side note, how long do you have to wear a retainer after? I was told to wear it every 2nd night after I got the braces off, and now (8 years later) I only wear it for 2 nights at the weekend. My teeth are hardly going to move after 8 years, are they?

You wouldn't get laid without them anyway.

I got them halfway through senior year of high school and was super pissed (now sophomore in college, still have them), but then I remembered ^

I would imagine that depends on how long it's going to take for braces to correct your teeth alignment. It could be anywhere from 6months to a couple of years. Depends on what your dentist thinks really how much of your money your orthodontist wants.

unless you really need it for medical reasons and you'll be good about putting in those stupid retainers every night after they're off, i wouldn't bother.

i lost my retainers after not having worn them for a few months and had to get new impressions with my teeth not quite perfectly aligned. along with even more not wearing of the new ones and eventually throwing them away, i've got a bit of a snaggletooth on the front bottom teeth.

i still blame part of it on the shoddy porcelain cap that's next to it. ****ing weirdo dentist that did that number used to have newspaper clippings all over the walls of his office about how he was a crazy person.

I don't know if its been mentioned yet, but theres braces called "Incognito" (or "Encognito" idr) & they go on the backside of your teeth. I had them, and I was told by my orthodontist that they work better than traditional braces. If you can't get invisalign then try to see if your ortho offers incognito. Plus, no one can see em unless you show em.
For your sake I hope heaven & hell are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Are they like the permanent bar you get after braces behind your bottom teeth?

No, I think thats called a permanent retainer. Incognito braces are just braces on the backside of your teeth. They come off like normal braces do, you may still have to wear rubber bands like normal braces depending on your teeth.

They look like this http://www.smilesbyaos.com/images/incognito/incognito-typodont-photo-1.jpg

I'm in the same boat as you, except I'm 16 rather than 19. But I would still feel stupid with braces even at 16 because most people I know that needed braces got them in year 8. I only see very few people older than me still with braces.

I don't think braces are as bad as people make them seem. It's only because in movies and stuff it's usually the nerds that have braces. It'll probably have like a 5% change in your chances of getting some.

Well, in my high school enough kids had braces that I didn't really catch any flack for having them for the first three years of highschool. I would try to talk and eat in a way that didn't show my braces though, and a lot of my friends would actually occasionally be surprised when I reminded them I had braces

it doesn't look great, but that's not really a big deal. The big deal is how uncomfortable and annoying it feels. Getting food stuck, spending half hour a day flossing, the pain of having them tightened, and just the general feeling of braces...

Unless your teeth are really giving you a hard time, I'd say it's not worth it. It's pretty lame.

I'm 18 and my parents are looking at getting me into braces.... again.

I had them on before when I was about 10. Stayed on me wee little teeth for 3 years. They I got the retainer to make sure they don't move after the braces were off. Well the retainer broke and all the super glue in the world wasn't going to bring them back, so my bottom teeth are all caving in on each other while my top teeth stick out of my mouth.

Braces would make them look better sure, but do I really want to deal with the hassle of going in every month plus taking a hit in the bank account? I'll take my awkward teeth, thanks.

tl;dr no adult braces.
