So these guitars are circulating on websites like zZounds, Muscians Friend, etc. The list price for this 2012 Ibanez 8 string is $399.00 US. This guitar will obviously be one that needs to be set up from the get-go and a new pickup swap. There is currently no reviews on the internet as of yet. I was wondering what everyone thought of this deal from Ibanez? This is a way to make the 8 string guitar available to a wider range of players due to its affordability. What would be some good pick ups to put in this guitar? Thoughts?

I play on buying one and throwing in D Activator 8s.

Or Blackouts.

They're not bad guitars; my buddy's music store got a bunch and completely sold out within a week of first shipment.

Yeah they are currently sold out on zZounds, that's where I bought mine from! I'm receiving my white RG8 in the mail tomorrow. I think I'm going to go with the D Activator 8's as well. I just want something that can handle the low end and put out the best clarity possible.

The only real answer to the SG vs Les Paul debate is to get a Flying V and laugh at all the suckers who don't have one.

I'd love to have one. Looks like a nice base for dropping aftermarket hardware into.

Look's like a better plan than one of the Schecter 8's. I may have to pick one of these up in a month or so.

Be wary guys.
The honeymoon period of my Agile Septor Pro 830 is definitely over. Before you get this, are you sure you just dont want to drop tune a 6 or 7 string like they did in the good old days.

Are you sure it's new? Looks like it has the old shitty style of bridge.

Yea, they're brand new. Ibanez doesn't have them on their website yet. They were scheduled to release in December, but got out earlier.

The fixed bridged ibanez are trully a great deal! It would be even better with a better bridge, like a gibrlatar or a tight end, but even with the cheap bridge, it's still a great deal!

Personally, I would buy this in a heartbeat if I needed to get an 8 string. It might be a B stock, but i'm sure it will blow that cheap Ibanez out of the water. And it comes with a hardcase(with a little tear in the padding, but still totally worth using, imo).

I dunno... after having an actual fixed Edge III-8 bridge, I don't think I could ever go back to that type of bridge.

You have an RG2228. You are not the target customer for the RG8.

The pickups on the RGA8 were absolutely disgusting. And not in a good way, just plain garbage

RG8 doesn't. Which still costs much less.

I also keep hearing terrible things about the build quality of the RGA8. Something about the bridge breaking off of the body or something.

If I was to buy an 8 string with that bridge, I'd just go for a used RG2228 and call it a day. For $400 new, the RG8 is looking pretty awesome. At least save the $400 extra for some new pickups, which are also crap on the RGA8, and is quite a big leap in money for something still so mediocre.

I don't see myself ever actually getting an 8 string, but regardless of that... If I were to, Agile would be my first choice, no questions. And after that, I'd go for the budget LTD 8 and just get heavier strings to compensate.

That bridge is really, really awful. Kind of sad to see Ibanez go back to it. The Gibralter is sooooo much nicer. Never played a fixed Edge, but in general any kind of FR bridge tends to be very comfortable to me.

I thought the original run of the RG2228s had problems with the bridge and the surrounding wood cracking.

I have the inexpensive LTD SC608B and it's been a blast. I'd watch out for a Used RGA8.

Nope. First run of RGA8s had a problem, but it was with the screw holding the bridge down on the baseplate being stripped when people were silly and tried to raise the bridge without undoing the screw.

A WHITE 8-string for a guy on a budget? *drool*

On a side note, aren't people used to replacing Ibanez's lousy pickups already?
I guess I can't comment on the bridge, but as stated before, heck, for that price you can afford a new bridge too...

Thinking about grabbing one in black and putting sd distortion 8's in it. I love ibanez 8string head stocks for some reason.

I put D-Activator 7's in my S7320 and they sound killer. I suppose the 8-string ones will do just as great in that.
