Lately I have been playing the same rhythms and would like to go out side of my boundaries. What are some good rhythm exercises that have helped you with your rhythm?

Learn some funk... try to understand syncopation, cross rhythms. I have some great dvd's from Steve Salas and Alan Slutsky for funk, that will help you for music in general If you wanna learn rhythm, learn to funk. I guess.

Great exercise from Victor Wooten called rhythmic modes: write a two or four bar rhythmic phrase. After you've practiced it a bit play it again but start using the 2nd note of the phrase (the previous first note gets placed at the end of the phrase now.) Repeat this using all the notes in the phrase as the starting point. You'll get some cool syncopation and cross-barline rhythms. Hope this makes sense.

And B&J is right. Funk Funk Funk. James Brown, Talking Heads whatever. Latin music is great too. Bossa Novas, sambas etc any dance rhythm is definitely worth looking at

Singing and playing at the same time/ playing with an acapella vocal track of a song you never heard of.

Metronomes that mute for a bar or 2 are also good for your internal timing.
