Let`s say I will record a music video with my band and in the end of the video I throw the guitar through the window, smash it against the ground or I will play it in the rain.

Of course I don`t want to break my own guitar you know. But where can I get a "stunt guitar"?
Should I go to my local guitar store and ask like "Hey! Do you by any chance have a broken guitar I can get for free?" or should I just buy a crappy cheap guitar?
How does this work?

It would actually look really cool if in one frame you can see me raise my own guitar like I`m about to smash it and in the next frame you can see me smash a toy guitar or a pink plastic blowup guitar against the ground haha

Well if you can't afford to break one then get the cheapest one and break it. A good video editor can make it look like you are smashing your own guitar

People often stick old Squiers, Epiphones, LTDs and copy-brand guitars guitars on eBay that have fundamental problems, be they simple electronic faults all the way through to jacked truss rods or poor repair jobs. You can pick something like that up dirt cheap.
Yes, I know everything. No, I can't play worth a damn.

Just get a Wal-Mart guitar or browse your classifieds for some junkers.

If you do get an editor to edit your video, take stills of you "swinging" your guitar towards the ground, have that go in the video as freeeze frames or whatever, then at the point of contact, sub in the $60 guitar. Before the though, actually smash the $60 guitar.

You're welcome.

I've thought about doing something similar, actually. I just posted this suggestion on another thread, just put an add on Craig's List saying you are looking for a junker guitar and willing to pay $20 or something like that.

You can even check ebay, you can get a no-name strat copy for pretty cheap there too but you'd have to pay shipping.

from an editors standpoint the best thing to do is to find a cheap guitar that is roughly the same color, size and shape of your guitar. Just go on craigslist or hit up some pawn shops until you find one that is close. Then when you shoot it you will have to do a few takes from different angles of you swinging your guitar in a downward motion then run through the "smash take" with the donor guitar. It would be optimal to find a fairly cool guitar that you could play in the video and then smash it but you will still have to do a few takes of the swing and then reset and smash it. When you do the final make sure you smash that thing with all you got because if it looks weak you will just have a broken guitar and a sad looking ending to the smash climax.

Pawn shop or Craigslist. May help to even put up an ad that youre looking for a beater.Thats how I got a cheapo Strat copy that I used to practice refinishing and dicking around with the electronics. Got it for like $30. I wouldn't even bother with eBay, the shipping cost won't be worth it.

I think he means a Gibson Maestro or something like that. I don't think many tears will be shed if those are smashed even new.
