had to necrobump this because this one drives me up the wall:

great record. one of the weaker songs on there though. the first 12 seconds is great. sounds like it's going to be a pretty and haunting song. then it turns into some peppy sea shanty.

it's an okay song still. but had they developed that first idea, the song would've ended up a lot better. albeit totally different.

I always thought exactly that. The beginning sounds completely different from the rest of the song.

<any prog song>

shoulda just cut everything out after the first section and make that section into something that matters

This. BTBAM's only song I like is prequel to the sequel because of that prog intro (first minute of the song). And then it turns into shit

Seriously if I could put that intro on an infinite loop I'd listen to it for the rest of my life.

I wish the middle part/breakdown of Ted Nugent's 'Stranglehold' wasn't there.
You know, the part where NOTHING HAPPENS for what seems like an eternity?

My brother and I have a joke that he had to go take a shit during the recording and told the band to just keep it going until he got back.

I like the sound of the bass they used on that part. Same tone as the bass intro to Venom Soup and Together. Flange and what not.

The end of Stand by Sly and the Family Stone

They should've jammed out on that for like ten minutes. Too bad Sly started turning into a maniacal, crazy person.

Everytime i listen to Little Wing i wish it would have been longer and didn't end as abruptly. But it's probably better the way it is.

while the whole song is great in general, the outro... is just beautiful.

The small guitar solo from "Otherside" by RHCP. The first time I heard it, it sounded like the build-up to what was going to be a pretty badass solo. But no

Edit: Starts at 3:21

I always hated how the guitar goes away completely during the last chorus and the bass is the only thing keeping it going.. the song is much better live

They cut it for this video, but even at 8 bars the instrumental/solo bridge in Well Thought Out Twinkles by Silversun Pickups is waaaaaaaaaaaay too short. I seriously turn my headphones/speakers all the way up and try to just let it ****ing melt my face off, and I almost get there right before the verse kicks back in but it just doesn't do enough for me. The ending repeats it, but it's not the same without the delay/reverb saturated lead in the foreground. Plus when the verse does kick back in it's a serious drop in energy.

Pretty much everything they've ever done suffers from that. it sucks man

Why not listen to the Stevie Ray version? It's like ten minutes long or something.

Miles Davis and the Cool by the Gaslight Anthem has a bridge that lifts the entire song, but it only lasts for like 8 bars.
Similarly, Backstreets by Springsteen has the best bridge of any song ever, it could go on forever.
The outro coda to John Mayer's In Your Atmosphere
I have no sig, and neither do I want one.

I was actually about to say that as much as I love it, I feel like almost every song on Sam's Town is too short. Just love them so much that I want more.

His is too long, and an instrumental. Part of what makes Little Wing so great is the lyrics.

There are a few Norma Jean songs where they have killer riffs that they only hold for a bar or two.

Can't link it right now but I love the riff that's played during the solo of "cold" by At the Gates.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLL0d49aDDI The bit from 46 seconds to 1:30 should be the whole song the rest of it is no where near as good.

The second solo in the electric wizard solo, that bluesy one I wish went on for like 3 minutes more. And the song mountain of mars I wish went on for at least 15 minutes
