I plan on buying my first guitar pedal and have nooooo idea what to get. I've been doin my homework and seeing what people say, but one thing I want to ask is
What's the cheapest I should go for a above-decent pedal?
I wanted to only spend $55 but will go to $70 if I have to

The $55 pedal is kinda meh, but the $70 pedal can sound good. I personally like the $129.99 pedal.

Nah dude, you gotta spring for the $130.4 pedal. That extra nickel is where all the tone comes from.

just get something that you can afford and you like the sound of.
Are you just after a distortion or overdrive? or something else.
if you just want "a pedal" its quite hard to give suggestions

Well, the common, whats your amp question must be asked?

For 70 bucks, you wont find much.

A used Big muff if you like fuzz. I think new ones are about 70 anyway. Im not the biggest fan. Hell, I have one that is missing some screws and a battery cover Id sell to you for 30 bucks. I just dont like fuzz.

On the "Effect" Side there are plenty of effects out there. A used phase or delay can be had for around those prices.

If you're unsure what type of pedals you want, tell us what mp you currently have and the style of music you play along with some reference videos of the bands you want to sound like.

If you're really low on cash, try getting hold of a Joyo pedal of some sort. They are copies of highly reputable circuitry at a really low price. It's a good place to get you started.

Don't buy a pedal, it's going to be a waste of money in front of that amp. Start saving up.

yh but its not like hes gigging with it its just for messin around at home with if need be he can just use the pedal with a friends amp or at a venue to get the best effect.

in terms of the thread question i think we need a bit more of an idea of exactly what pedal theres a whole host of cheaper pedals that can sound better than the bank breakers and vice versa. i mean i bought a 32 quid berhinger wah pedal that i use even to gig with when its through a good amp.

Focus on getting a new amp buddy. for 70$ I would recommend an acoustic brand G20. I have one and it's a nice amp for the price. much better then the spider

I was told that the "legendary" vintage DOD250 was amazing. I went on ebay to see that it sells over 300$...
I went to a web site that sells brand new DOD250 with options to make it vintage. Its 85$ for the standard model and you can put options.. The only problem is that I am studying in electrical engineering, they can't fool me with electonic stuff. Here are the options:

Mojo 741 chip for 10 more dollars! This is an old noisy LM741 Op amp, I understand that the original used that chip but come on, its worth 0.25$ each.

True bypass +25? WTF, or even +35$ if you want a small LED?!? A true bypass doesn't cost anything more, you just need to wire the circuit properly to the switch, which is in most case a double or even triple switch anyways.

Both options Should come stock at that price!

So I found the original electric diagram and bought all the original electronic components for 2$ (i suggest reverse log pot for the gain knob). The plastic box was more expensive than the pedal itself...
It is a nice OD pedal, really, I like it, you can controll the distortion with your guitar's volume knob and there is an integrated filter, its not too agressive, warmer...
