A fine specimen of "Terrone", native of southern Italy.

And here is a "Leghista", proudly originating from the north (or "Padania" as they like to call it).

Native Americans...I live in Pittsburgh, which has a lot of areas and features named for Native American tribes/groups but no longer has any real concentration of Natives or close descendants. I don't think I've ever met a single full-blooded Native American.

I've learned most of what I know about Native peoples from history classes, museums and reading, so while I know they're probably the most marginalized and forgotten group in American history (what with the forcing them onto reservations and borderline genocides), I've never actually been able to interact with any of them to get their perspective. Maybe one day I'll move out west and change that.

Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islanders.

Hold no opinion on the general populace; they're just people.

They get a bad rap here for alcoholism/drugs etc. But usually it's one small trouble group being representative of an entire community. Pretty unfair.

yeep. this entirely.
I know a few great aboriginals, then I also know of some real bad ones.

native americans were historically thought of as savages by many wealthy and powerful europeans (the kind that wrote letters that we like to read), and many people still carry the myth that native american society was extremely primitive before european culture reached them. some history textbooks still teach this myth, though less and less so thanks to pressure from representatives of the native american community and some honest historians.

despite this, i don't find many people carrying stereotypes about modern day native americans. i hear about alcoholism and casinos, but that's about it.

When I was in Canada I lived near a native reservation.

Let me tell you, all of the ones I met were great people. Sure, some problems were evident. They ate unhealthy food and a good percentage of them smoked weed, some were alcoholics who beat their girlfriends. So you see, they're not much different from Americans.

I'll be honest, I miss them. I thought they were genuine people. Kinda wish I had known some of them better.

Native Americans. I have a tiny bit in me.

I haven't attended any traditional things but I attended a Creek college for a semester and have been involved with the Creek nation for a few years. I took a language course but I can only read a little now. I'm glad to be a part of what I have been. The native languages are really great but are dying away very quickly. Living in Idianland, USA and reading some Native American literature has made me pretty angry about the whole situation with Native Americans.

I have some Welsh in me, so I call Celtic on that one.

I don't even count my Anglo-Saxon or Viking heritage as native.

I don't care how long ago that was, way I see it, Norway, Germany and France.

Also, I'm part Huguenot too, so, more French there.

I personally think the white man should give more rights to the English natives. It is a disgrace that they are basically second class citizens here.

I don't really know if you could really point out someone as truly native over here but I think the Slavs came in peacefully enough that noone can accuse us of raping and pillaging their lands. Semi-related, appaently the oldest wooden wheel in the world was found in the marshes around Ljubljana which is pretty neat.

Why would you count those as native? Angles and Saxons came across from what's now the Low Countries and northern Germany, and Vikings... well, the most badass raiding types were actually Danes. The Norwegian ones were all about farming and relations with livestock.
