and I got some money for Christmas so I figured I'd start looking because my birthday is in a month. A friend of mine's brother has a Cort fretless 5 string and it's what has made me absolutely adore the sound and feel of them; I was going to offer him $250 (he payed $400) because he never plays and sucks at it but he's not selling. Now I have to look elsewhere. I pretty much only play 5 strings so it has to be a minimum of that (I'm considering a 6) and my budget is probably not over $300. I plan on going used.

With that all said, can any of you guys recommend me a fretless bass that you personally have played? Or suggest where to look? Thanks!

Yeah I saw that one. I already looked through ebay, however, I won't have enough extra money until my birthday in a month. Unless I find some ridiculously cheap one for $150 or something.

How the heck does this not get any replies but all those stupid "I need a beginner bass" and "4 or 5 lolz" threads still exist?

Patience, things don't move as fast around here as on other forums.

It also might be that good options for a cheap fretless 5-er are a little few and far between. You could track down a used Rockbass 5 string FL, or a used fretless Cort Curbow. Ibanez has the SR375FL that's about $150 out of your budget new, but you might be able to track one down on eBay or CL.

Rondo has a 5 string Brice fretless that you might find interesting: http://www.rondomusic.com/product1825.html

Check pawn shops and craigslist. fretless 5ers aren't common, especially so with cheap ones.

Corts are often pretty sweet. They remind me of my Laguna Ocean 4-string fretless, which is an amazing bass. I just wish it had fret lines. It looks better without them, but it would be a hell of a lot easier to play if it had them.

FatalGear41 knows the ways of the obscure. I hear it's just not with Gibsons. Beware, Halloween approaches...

I think every bassist wants a fretless bass. That`s the moment when you know you master the bass`s secrets!

The only fretless I've played have been that one Squier VM and mt friends Fender Jazz that he took that frets out, but I've always wanted one as well, and personally, I have always thought about trying the Brice that Tostitos posted, but if you happen to come across one that you love, you should definitely PM me, haha, I've really been looking around for a 6-string fretless and may eventually pull the trigger on a Carvin someday, as I'm pretty partial to Cravin basses, but I wouldn't mind finding one that's a bit cheaper and feels/sounds great.
