So a little while back i posted a question about pedal order and ended up having a brief discussion about what overdrive pedal to get but didnt go into too much detail about it so im wondering, what overdrive pedal recommendations do any of you have for my needs?

What im after is a pedal that provides a good broken up tone which will be "always on" and i can then crank it up a bit by engaging another dirt pedal before it in the chain to provide me with both a volume boost and more saturation.

It needs to:-
-Stack well with other pedals (particularly dirt)
-Have a reasonably small footprint
-Be less than, say, £150 (would be prepared to go a little higher for the right pedal)
-Be flexible without being overly complicated (doesnt necessarily need an eq on it)
-Have a natural breakup sound
-Lends itself well to being an "always on" effect (effectively mimicing an overdriven amp)

I am using a guitar with humbuckers and a 40w Fender Hot Rod (live) or a Blackstar HT-5c (home). The dirt pedal i'll be stacking it with will be a Dr Scientist: The Elements (i will be using The Elements as the boost)

Tech 21 Sansamp products were mentioned before (as well as their Joyo counterparts) which look really interesting. Im just wondering if anyone has any further recommendations at all. Im liking the look of some of the Wampler pedals but they are quite pricey, has anyone had any experience with them?

Check out the Fulltone Fat Boost. I ran it next to my TS9 for a good while as a clean boost and treble/bass EQ. If you run it with the volume dimed and the gain at zero, you get noticeably more volume and it just goes up if you start pushing the gain. It's meant to be ran first in the chain before your dirt pedals, and make your tone stand out more.

Yes I was rude, and I was aggressive and I was offending a large group of people. But I was civlized about it.

Only on UG would I say I got engaged and bought a jet city and get congratulated on the amp

Fulltone OCD. I use mine as a boost to tighten high gain stuff, light breakup and screaming full on lead tones, does all very well.

Rothwell Hellbender. Sounds like a cranked plexi, not a pedal.

Buy a used Ibanez TS-9 or Maxon equivalent. Nothing compares to them IMO.

yeah a tubescreamer is a pretty unique circuit in the pedal world.

My tubescreamer does exactly what you want buddy (it's modified to ts808, has led and inverse fat clipping too). Now, if a Timmy is under your budget I'll check that option too.

CMAT MODS signa drive. its like 2 overdrives and a boost in one, very natural sounding. the way i use it i get a good natural crunch on switch up, middle is more like a boost, and down is like a tubescreamer mode.
