My gear:
Fender Telecaster w/ Dual Gibson Humbuckers

Ovation Celebrity Electric/Acoustic
(My preamp is giving me problems though and the output doesn't always work)

Samson CO1U Studio Condenser Mic
(I've dropped it a couple times and the Left picks up much better than the Right... I don't know if that's due to damage or if I'm just doing something wrong.) So far I've used this for recording my vocals and acoustic.

Peavey i100 Dynamic Cardioid Mic
(Never used it yet)

Sonar 6 LE (Cakewalk)
I use Audacity more just because I've spent a lot of time messing with it and am pretty decent at getting ok recordings with it and I've spent almost no time with Cakewalk yet.

Koss Pro/4AA Headphones
I use a 1/4 adapter to plug into my speaker output on my computer, I'm not sure if that's giving me less quality or not.

Fender Frontman 212R Combo Amp

And my computer is just an old Compac PC

My budget at the moment is around $200 and I'm looking at the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4.
But if I wait til February I could have a budget between $400-$500. Should I save and get a better interface or should I update some gear? I'm open to any suggestions. I'm planning on upping my recordings so I put this on the recordings forum. I don't own drums and don't plan on buying any within the next year or so. I don't know anything about amp sims or midi drums/instruments or their prices. I don't knw if I'm missing any questions.

Get the 2i4 then look into some Studio Monitors next month. Then you'd be set.

So if I get the 2i4, there's decent enough free amp sims? I basically just want to have everything I'll need for decent recordings. If it helps I'll be doing a decent mixture of genres but I'm looking for a dirty distortion with chunky palm mutes (NOFX is my main influence on my distorted guitars, that and Against Me!'s older folk punk[barre] chords.)
For my clean sounds I kinda like a crisper almost a bit of distortion on it. My acoustic stuff I guess I do more of a Old Crow Medicine Show sound. Like a bluegrass punk.

Yup, over in the sticky. For those inspirations I'd recommend the Hybrit line. Something a little less "metalz", but most of the amp sims while crunch just as well as they'll explode.

And how much would a decent monitor run me? I'm assuming I need two for Left and Right.

edit: I can MusiciansFriend some monitors but what's your input on a decent set that's usually somewhat inexpensive?

The left side that picks up better... that would be the front if the mic. The other side is the back. It's not a stereo mic.

Could I get some more talent in the monitors, please?

I know it sounds crazy, but try to learn to inhale your voice. www.thebelcantotechnique.com

Ok then. Would the Equator D5s be a better choice than the M Audio MX5 D2s (i think thats what theyre called.) I had also seen a recomendation for those in my price range. Is it true M Audio only works with pro tools?

M-Audio will work with anything. ProTools will only work with Digidesign (Avid), except for the ProTools M-powered, which will also work with M-Audio but nothing else.

Pro Tools 10 works with any interface.
Now running an Eleven Rack with Pro Tools 10.3.3 - it's amazing and I'm having ball with it - worth every penny. PT 10 is tops IMO and the Eleven Rack is a work of art!

Considerably better.
