is it bad to keep the power source to your pedals plugged in all the time?

i dont keep them clicked on or engaged, but i generally leave them plugged in with power running the whole time. pretty nice to have your rig hooked up in your room and just pick up your guitar when you want to play.

does this affect the longevity of the pedals?

It depends on the pedal, but probably not. Feel them (and your power supply) for heat. If they're warm, I would unplug them when you're done playing for the day.

Even though they are not on, they are on standby and still have electricity running through them, putting unnecessary wear on the electrical components. This could reduce the life of your pedals. I'm pretty sure I read in most of the owners manuals for my gear that said to unplug them when not in use.

I wouldn't chance it as expensive as gear can be but if you have them on a surge protector then you can just click that off or on.

I just turn on the surge protector that runs my pedals when I want to play.

yeah i figured that. i don't whats eating my memory toy but i might as well eliminate possibilities.

for the record, i wold say the memory toy has been plugged in for between 2-3 years a majority of the time. like i said not engaged but with the power source in. still works fine...

so i would say most pedals should be able to handle years of electrical wear easy? i know boss can, and see others in my sig.

hey....if they break, it just means more pedal shopping!!! (i do honestly want another wah and delay. i would have major probs if my signa, ep or babyface went down. love em).

if you're looking for a wah, check out the 535q crybaby. awesome wah, much like the CAE one. really sick. loud enough boost, very controllable, can be throaty or can be like a crybaby.
I got mine for $40 from GC used, and it still had the plastic on it

I leave my pedals plugged in all the time, but like tremolo burn said I turn off the surge protector. You might try doing that.

what's wrong with the mem toy anyway?

+1 i used to do that but found something better. bought a double outlet box metal back and front and in one side i put a pair of outlets, the other a timer. i just crank it up to an hour and play away. then too, you can plug anything into it,

i already have two power conditioner/ surge protectors , and four decent sized surge protectors going around (just for outlets). however the way it is set up that way because i have stuff plugged in every corner of the room.
