Some of you have been with me through my search for an amp that meets my requirements: simple to use and extremely versatile. I went with a JSX combo and loved it except the one I got had an annoying hum. The replacement was horrible. GC has them both out for repair, and I have a $600 credit.

After some false starts I now have a Dual Rec Tremoverb combo. But there's still that part of me that lusts for the 6505 metal tone. The 6505+ 112 is like $575 new. Logically, I don't need it, but...ABY switch...Tremoverb for cleans and blues, combine the two for metal. Again, the impulse buyer in me is sorely tempted. Talk me out of it!

I guess I could wait for JSX to get fixed too...patience isn't my strong suit though...

Tremoverb is a bad ass amp. You need to spend serious time dialing that thing in. IMO, it's a far better amp than a 6505

I mean, you've had 4 amps in 10 days?

You need to sit down and really work with them, not just dismissing them based off first impressions.

Well...two new amps in 2 days, but your point is valid. And I'm not dismissing the TVerb at all. It's ****ing awesome. It's going nowhere. I feel lucky to have gotten it.

Oh. 10 days. Well the JSXs shouldn't count. They were faulty. If the first was fine I'd have kept it and been happy.

Stick with the tremoverb.

Get your JSX back, see which you prefer and shift the loser.

Or keep them both and effectively have both styles of American gain and a then maybe work on your guitar collection or something.

Did they tell you what the hum was? I didn't read the original thread about it, but it might've just been the tubes. I know my egnater hums when I turn it on, but it doesn't hum through the amp. if you get what i'm saying

One of they GC guys said it was probably tubes, but then they took a look and they didn't know what it was either. I went back a couple a few days later and they said they had it in the back messing with it for a bit and couldn't figure it out so they sent it out for repair.

Tom and JW you're absolutely right. The Tremoverb is amazing. Messing around on it more and I don't think I'm really lusting after the 6505's metal tone that much anymore. Maybe a little but the Dual Rec's metal tone is awesome too, just a different awesome. And I didn't even put a boost in front yet. I've just been going straight into the amp for now.

I'm cured.

Well, I mean, a Tremoverb's flubby bass will NEVER QUITE give you those 6505 chuggas....

I've heard the Tremoverb sound quite less flubby than other Rectifiers. Also, Dual Rectifiers, when they are well dialed in, don't sound as flubby to me as people make them out to be. To the TS, please just wait for the JSX. Both the Tremoverb and the JSX kills as is or with a boost.

I would rather have a 6505 and a JSX OR Tremoverb. The TVerb and JSX are a lot more similar to each other than either is to a 6505.

But yeah... it's been said a lot already - cool your jets. I especially agree with spending time to dial in the Mesa. Those amps take time.

JSX's are super sensitive to tubes. Basically it's, JJ, NOS (especially RFT) or gtfo. The second one may have just had crap tubes.

Jets are cooled.

Just playing around with the Tremoverb and really loving it. I put 6L6s in it (it had EL34s when I got it) just so I could get it back to stock. Last night I thought maybe one of the preamp tubes went microphonic or something. A high pitched whistle started after playing for a while. Trying to figure it out, for some reason I tapped one of the knobs on the front and I could hear that through the speaker. To be on the safe side, I picked up some 12AX7s to have on hand. Noise wasn't there tonight...just a couple of hours of badass Mesa tone.

I will definitely wait for a while. I'll figure out what I want to do with the credit if/when the JSX is fixed. Offworld is right, the JSX and Tremoverb are somewhat similar. They both have nice warm cleans, can pretty easily do blues (esp, with OD) and can get heavy enough for about any metal I might want to play. The biggest difference is the tonal character of the distortion. Mesa tone vs. Peavey tone. Both are awesome.

I couldn't honestly resist

If you do buy a second amp, though, like Offworld said, get a 6505 instead of the JSX.

There is logic in what you and Offworld say. The Tremoverb and JSX are similar in that they're both very versatile.

I'd return the JSX and just grab a used 5150/6505 off the GC website. It shouldn't be more than $600. And it'll be shipped right to your door (or your local store) from which ever GC you buy it from. If you want a 6505, get a 6505.

I think it's more likely due to the idiocy of your comment. Just a guess though.

dual rec =/= 6505

turtle i suggest you back down as tone is a personal preference thing. the dual rec and 6505 are different amps and are both suited to different genres. one is not better than the other.

Well, the $600 credit has been spent. Along with another $250. And then another $320. I'm pretty sure I won't be GAS'ing for anymore amps.
