I've recently acquired an unloaded Emperor 2x12. It seems quite oversized and looks good as a piece of furniture in my living room. I want to load it up to enable a throaty gritty kind of high gain tone in low tunings (my 7 is in F#). Think more like an ISIS post-metal tone than super clean digital sounding modern metal tones.

I have a few different high gain heads that are more a less tuned up (replaced/upgraded most tubes). Usually I don't use an insane amount of gain and I always cut lows and boost mids.

What speakers would work for this? I am open to anything. I own a V30 cab and it is more of a harsh slice through the mix kind of thing (this cab may act different with V30s though because of it's oversized-ness). I want something that is equally mean but in a lower darker kind of way.

Some options: Swamp Thang/Governor, G12K-100.

reaper HP or a HM75?

plenty of tone samples, most include a dual rec hi gain sample. not sure what you mean by throaty, but the HM75 samples seem really throaty to me

I saw in a couple of pictures that on Bucketheads Les Paul (only some pictures) that his neck pickup is painted in white. Can anyone explain to me why he would do this, and if there are any pros and cons.

The guy wears a KFC Bucket and a white mask during performances, and you're interested in the color of his pickup covers?

This. I'm using this in a 2x12 to play post-metal and doomy stuff. Love it. Sounds huge.
