JCM? Isn't that one of the budget amps they sell at Marshall's?

And a cab from 1960?? That's just old, brah. Sell that shiz and get you a Line 6 Spider 15w. That's the end all, be all. Sooooo flexible!!! And it's light so it won't hurt your back when you pack it in the van. And you can just mic it and it'll be hella loud! What what!! can I get an "amen!"

The 2203 model is the one that most people look after when it comes at a JCM800. Most guys will tell you that the 70's and early 80's Marshalls (Early 80's being when the 2203 JCM800 came out I believe), are the best and that anyone looking for one shouldn't go past that time period.

Now in my personal experience, you can get a killer tone by having an Overdrive in front of it to give it a little kick, depending on how much you need and it's that classic Marshall sound that is basically trademarked at this point, and I'm referring to the 2203 JCM800 by the way.

My 2 cents.

thanks. both are later horizontal input models btw. i was thinking i might get to push the 2204 just a bit more than the 2203?? also have the option of a fargen miniplex for same price. what you think about them? im sure even though its 12w it would be enough through mu 4x12

Those are both excellent amps. I'd take the 2203 for the extra headroom. Are the prices similar? Does that matter at all to you?

Oh...you're open to other options as well? Location? Budget? What bands type of tones appeal to you?

im in the uk. all amps about $950 id say. bit of evrything like zep, free, queen, foos, beatles, acdc etc...... i know these bands have varying gain levels but id like a set and forget sound for them all. about headroom im sure ill never be above 3 on volume with either so not an issue id say.

Well then either will probably suit. Maybe the 2204 so it gets pushed a bit more like you said. Honestly I don't think you'll go wrong with either choice. And both seem good for those types of tones.

Pull two tubes on a 2203 and flick the impedance switch down a notch and it basically becomes a 2204.

I'd go for the 2204 if I had the choice, just because the 100w 2203 is ****ing LOUD, and needs to be cranked loud to sound awesome. The 2204 will still be super loud and need to be cranked, but at least it'll be slightly more quiet

I guess you could pull the tubes, though, so I'd just go with whichever is cheapest, and in the best shape

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.
